I had a veterinarian do that about my cat. I had my then boyfriend now husband with me . It was my cat, my Visa card paying for it. Yep. Apparently I'm stupid because I don't have a penis. I addressed the problem right there after 5 minutes. I told him its my cat , lives with me only NOT my boyfriend and I'm the only one paying for it. Grrr
I had to learn to change a flat tire all by myself with a screaming 2 yo (at the time) in the back, I was crying right along with him I was so scared and my dh was in the hospital. Lol since then I learned how to change a car battery, install brake lights and how to cap off all fluids.
I had a mechanic tell me one time that a $2000 transmission was a good investment in an $800 car with over 200,000 miles on it... i said listen just because i have tits and a vagina does not make me stupid so nope
Oh I forgot the worst part, he talked to me slower and louder like I was a child or something lol. My dad was a mechanic and daddy didn't raise no fool lol. I know what a stupid strut and rear knee are. Old men make me giggle.
Lol people do that to me when I'm speaking Spanish, they talk slower and louder, I'm like oooooook. Annunciating stuff doesn't mean your speaking a different language. Lol
This is so annoying! Car salesmen seem to be the worst. I ask a question and he tells my husband the answer. One time I waved my hand and just said, "Over here!". He got the message!
I have always worked in male dominated industries, and thankfully do not come across this too often. I actually train heavy duty mechanics on how to do bearing adjustments on truck/trailer wheel ends, brake jobs and king pins.
Lol my dad owns an auto repair shop and has owned it for over 40 years. I have always been around his shop ever since I was a little kid watching the mechanics doing everything. I have been employed at his shop for the past 6 years. I know what I'm talking about when I talk to customers.
But the other day I had someone tell me I wasn't qualified to speak to them. I also had someone tell me that I was just a receptionist and I don't know what I was talking about. Then the mechanic gets on the phone and repeats exactly what I just told the customer. Derp.
This reminds me of My Cousin Vinny when Marissa Tomei gets called to the stand as a car mechanic expert and the prosecutor tries to "quiz" her, totally patronizing her and she puts him in his place.
Sometimes you just have to be a b!tch. I learned that when I was trying to buy a vehicle. Dh was with me, and he is very knowledgeable about vehicles. I asked the salesman a question about fuel efficiency, and he addressed Dh with the answer and even said your wife brings up a good point! I promptly let him know that if he wanted our business he could address me as well. Dh was laughing he knew that I was going to say something. The salesman apologized and said he just assumed Dh would be the one making the purchase. I told him that he was very much mistaken because Dh and I both contributed to our household and that neither of us would be purchasing anything from him. We left him standing there and drove away.... he looked a little surprised!
I had a rep from a competing energy company do this to me. He was asking about how much we paid for gas and I said I have no idea. My DH pays the energy bill and they're all online. He got frustrated and said "what does he hide the bills from you? Most women handle the house finances". Umm ok. When we first lived together I handled the bills, he handled the rent. Now that I'm a SAHM he handles the finances and he's very organized about it (spreadsheet, MINT app etc) so I don't worry about it unless it seems like people are being wasteful. He finally sighed and said "well then can I just talk to your husband?" Big mistake. We were about to sit down to dinner and then go for a walk. DH isn't near as patient as I am with solicitors and right away said "I don't f*** ing have time for this" and slammed the door on him.
I was asking because I actually didn't know if that was something I should be aware of. I'm a car dummy and am happy to let DH take the reigns on that.
Although, I will say the mechanic treats my husband like crap. When I go in to ask for things, they're very nice and professional. I go in and ask for what I want and decline anything I didn't go in there for... But when DH goes in, they give him nasty attitude and act like he's an idiot.
Lol at all these! I hate car shopping. I make double of my husband. So it really ticks me off when they don't speak to me. I will never forget the one sales person who would not talk to me. When the asked if we wanted a test drive I laughed and said no because you have not once spoke to the person who will be PAYING for the car.
I was driving with my mom one day and saw a car load of dudes staring at their flat tire. I laughed and said pull over mom.
Got put and asked if the needed help. They just stared at me and said what can you do? I asked for the jack and tire iron. Swapped out the tire and left laughing my butt off.

If a salesman treats me that way I quickly dominate the convo so he's aware he won't get over on me.

@kosh Um yea, you should check your headlight fluid like before every drive. Dim lights... Much danger.
I'm kidding of course.
