@Laebel I know ? and the way she just told me " I don't know where you're from but "napkin" is actually a french name for boys, was priceless
I'm french. A napkin is a napkin. Nothing more. Not a name. Not even a pet name. Not even a popular name for a dog. And I'm into weird names, so... ??
When I usually don't like something but don't want to say I don't, I say "hm, that's interesting." I think they still get I don't like it though lol but I can't think of anything else to say!
Cami, you should pm me. I'm really curious what gardening tool, since the only ones I can think of are shovel and hoe. ?

Oh those are great american names @planet ??I might steal them
Haha ok I get it now! Your English was great that's why I thought she was being crazy
That sucks cause I'm super curious what every day object it is.
I don't know if any objects that have names even remotely interesting enough to name a child after.

Hi @nursefire you seem like a nice one ?
I said "imagine" at the beginning of my story, to reverse the situation and help people understand my problem ?
I'm french the lady was American on a forum and asking opinions on a name. When people asked her where she found it, she said it was a french name! And it's when I jumped in ? got it now?!
Sorry if my english isn't perfect I'm still learning!
Eta @mama no it was something else but if I say what, it will be too easy for people to find it? but it was some ugly and weird gardening tool
Okay French name
So was the name napkin or something else?
So first it was an American name and then it was a French name?
Let the crazy lady be

Well @bmoss ? no-one wanted to tell you anything and I hate to be the one breaking it to you but.....
Are you telling me I have been wrong about what a napkin was my entire life? ??
Cami SsendeМама сына-младенца, беременна (12 нед.)
I told her (almost word for word) that it was an interesting name, that I had never heard it in my country, but that it might be given as a name somewhere else. And that here it meant "weird object name"
And she just said (nicely) that I was wrong and that it was in fact a french name...
I was just thinking the SAME thing @serena!!
I would want that person to extend me the courtesy of saying 'hey, that's not really a common name and is in fact an inanimate object used for such and such'.
Serenas beat me to the Michael Jackson comment ?
I'd probably be straight forward with her about it lol
She probably thinks it sounds cool she may not be paying attention to what it is. I would tell her what a napkin is. I would want to know if a name I like meant something that is a everyday object....
I personally would make a different choice based on the information that the name really means something else.
I would ask her if she knew what a napkin was. If she was aware then what else can I say?
Same thing being truthful about what a napkin really is isn't saying hey that's a ----- name.
It's saying hey I only know napkin as a cloth used at meal times
If said mom wants to name her child that more power to her it's not my kid and I will never have to deal with the outcome
This also applies to any other objects
Poor kid

And if it was someone on a forum asking for opinions. (The name wasn't napkin but another "daily life random and not glamorous" object)
Eta: and how would you react if you had picked a very unique and weird foreign names and someone from the country was telling you it meant doorknob or something??
I'm going to let her know what a napkin is.
It's not an American name and she may make another choice knowing what it really means
I would say...
"Hmmm, I like it! (Lie) But I'm American and I've never heard it used for a name... Only for the cloth you use at supper. But it's nice and unique! (Lie)"
I don't think I could bring myself to say anything.

Well then, she's just a bit crazy! ?
