Do* we? Yes we do. Especially in colder areas. I live in SC and they hand out roasted chestnuts at strolls or parades near Christmas time. They aren't good really. ? they taste kind of like a regular chestnut... Except roasted.

This makes me think of a song "chestnuts roasting on an open fire" but I've never had them before and now I do.

This time of year a lot of shops have them here along with other roasted and sugared nuts. I'm in Iowa :)

I love roasted chestnuts! They're not so big in California, but I had them every year in Pennsylvania.

Sparkling you use a knife to cut a small x in the top of each one. Place them in a pan with a little water to cover the bottom. I bake mine on 450 for about 45 mins. You'll know they're done when the x opens up and they come out of their shells clean. They're delicious!
