Halp me

How do I get my one year old to stop terrorizing the dogs? We have two 50 lbs mutts and she is buddies with them, but the past few days she’s been chasing them, pulling their ears, biting them, grabbing their fur and skin, and slapping them. She does all of this while letting out a supersonic screech.

So my lo did something similar with our dogs and our pediatrician suggested showering the dog with attention when he hits/pulls ears, etc... "Oh no, doggie are you alright?" with lots of pets and hugs and attention for the dog. It actually works really well.

When my son did this i kept saying no and moving his hand even if it was 50x a min lol

Keep redirecting your daughter and make a safe space for your dogs to get away

When Troy did it we taught him "nice pets" and it worked better than time outs. Now he's older and when he's tired he will be terrorizing them and will definitely get a time out and have to apologise to them when time out is over (ps he hates having to tell the dogs sorry ?)

Those who do time outs, how do you go about that? She understands what “no” means and knows she won’t get what she wants by throwing fits, but I’m not confident that she would cooperate with a time out.

Usually I put her in the crate for 30 minutes or so, but I’ll try putting the dogs in instead.

One of my dogs loves his crate, the other one gets anxious when he’s not around us. I also worry about one of them nipping at her out of frustration. They are super good dogs and take her terrorizing like the gentlemen that they are, but I know they’re still animals so that thought is always in the back of my mind.

I’ll try showing her how to gently pet them and be sweet.

@dandelion nailed it

??? @cra I’m dying. We only let our daughter around our dogs while holding her and we say gentle or one finger and she pets them very gently. Our dogs are super sweet but even the sweetest dogs might snap when they are getting hit/bit. Good luck!

Wyatt has been getting a little more rough with my dog here lately. He's been hitting her and pulling on her ears/tail. I try to do "nice hands" and use his hands to gently touch her. He's only 10mo so he doesn't really understand that yet so more times than not, I'll crate my dog (she loves her crate) for about 30mins to give her a break and then I let her out and try again.

I'm in the same exact situation. When dd bullies our dogs, I tell her no and pet the dogs while showing her to be nice. It works most of the time. If it doesn't, I show her to another room to change what her attention is on. I was worried removing my dogs from the situation would make them think they did something wrong.

I found showing my DD how to interact with the dogs better then telling her off all the time. So I'd control when they interacted. So take her hand & show her gentle strokes on the body & remind her not the face. Guide her hand. Then dog playtime is over when you say.

If she gets too wild then shut the dogs out to get a break. My DD now gets not to touch the dogs face & to leave her alone when dog is in her bed.

Dogs are exciting things, I'd give her time to play with dogs supervised & you show her how to touch dogs nicely & give them a treat. Then they can have a break from each other.

Your DD gets her 'fix' of dog! If you shut them away completely then she won't learn how to interact nice & the dog becomes the forbidden temptation. Our dog is now quite boring to her & I don't ever need to give the dog a break.

Sounds like she needs crate trained ?

1 is ok for a mini time out in my opinion. Take her hand and lead her into a different room or onto the bottom step if you have one. Being taken away from them for a minute or so every time she is mean to them may work better than just sternly saying no?

Following we have similar issues ?

What about taking her hand and saying gentle? Then slowly guiding her hand over the dog in a slow petting motion.

Sounds like you need to rehome her. Kidding

I would stay consistent with scolding. When one of mine tries to bully the dogs I scold and show them that we love on the dogs. If the kids won’t be nice I don’t let them near the dogs

Put the dog somewhere else.

I find it pretty hilarious how people who have shown their true colors on social media snake away, delete the posts that outed them and come back on social media like nothing happened. Why do that, you outed yourself, so stay out. We still see you boo boo...
