Try braiding it damp and tightening up the braid when you get to the bottom. The top looks great!

What yaya says should work. You could even go a fishtail braid. Easier and look nicer I think.

I can braid, but not French braid, I've tried and failed. It's hard

Maybe because your hair is varying lengths? I can't personally do one either so I don't know. ☹

Lil, my hair is actually one length, minus some in the front. I used to have layers but I grew it all out for the sole purpose of being able to braid my hair again. ?

Do you watch yourself in the mirror? If so, try NOT doing that. That's how I taught myself. It made it easier to just feel the braid as it happened instead of focusing on what direction my hands and hair are going.

Try to spray your hair with hairspray, then brush it, then braid. Or braid when it's wet.
