Fired for being pregnant
Fired for being pregnant
SSSSSSSOOO mad right now. My work just fired me at 8 months pregnant. I have wrote before about how they wrote me up for heresay about my pregnancy and have constantly targeted me for my pregnancy. This is ridiculous and I'm not sure what I need to do from here. Does anyone have any suggestions? I now have no insurance.

You can file a complaint. And you can file for unemployment. Can you can get public assistance, wic just something to help you while you get things together?

I am just as good as the next csr they literally wouldn't tell me things on purpose so I would get errors and they said due to that is why I wasn't up to par. I was in a different location than the other csrs so when they would make something new up they wouldn't tell me. They have wrote me up for going to the bathroom and having doctors appointments. I have documentation of everything. I have never done anything I wasn't supposed to and all of the times that I got in trouble didn't start until after I told them I was pregnant.

And they are all based around me being pregnant.

Call human resourses or better Business Bureau and report them. Give them any proof you have

I'm not sure about what to do about the job situation. I know people hate to be on ga, but go file for Medicaid. Insurance is a must when you're pregnant.

Okay I was reading your previous posts. How did they write you up for saying you might not be coming back to work after maternity leave? How is that a write up offense?!?!?
Anyways, if you can prove that they started this after you announced your pregnancy, maybe contact a lawyer? See what your options are. Contact HR too.
Pretty sure they can't legally write you up for doctors appointments can they? They were medically necessary. Sounds like though they did you a favor almost because if they were acting this way...they're not good employers or people you want to work for. Contact a lawyer. See what they say.

I have no advice on how to deal with reporting the company, but I do have something to add about insurance. Normally when you are terminated from a job, you will still be covered under the insurance policy for 30 days. They should also send you info on payment arrangements, should you want to continue using that insurance. Another option would be GA. Definitely file for unemployment. Good luck, mama! This is such a tough spot to be in.

Woman who got fired from Chipotle for being pregnant just won a $500,000 law suit. Look into that, you could be coming into some money for discrimination, of that's the case.

I'm sorry Indiana is an at will state. They can literally fire you for any reason and write that down and it isn't illegal. Proving it is for pregnancy is going to be extremely difficult and a lawyer will cost a lot of money without a garuntee of a win. Also check your employees handbook in many states especially for privately owned businesses a doctor's note does not excuse an absence from work only medical emergency in which case they can write you up under their policy so that's something to check too. Unfortunately it's almost impossible to prove discrimination against pregnant women it's an awful truth in the work force for a woman. Good luck

Did they write you up for doctors appointments? Or for attendance issues? If you don't have the time off hours then you need to be scheduling those appointments on your days off.

1) Apply for Medicaid ASAP to cover loss of insurance.
2) Contact your OB and see if they would take Medicaid.
3) Get a free consultation with a lawyer. Pregnancy discrimination is a federal protection, I believe, so it would apply to all states, even if they are "at will", they still can't discriminate against pregnant women. They will let you know what your chances are. If your case is good and well documented, it may be enough for the employer to settle to avoid going to court.

Yes, what they have done is completely wrong but sadly Indiana (my poor Indiana, I'm a Hoosier too) is one of the worst states for pregnant women. I believe they are a D ranking to put into perspective. Although difficult to prove discrimination for pregnancy I would do everything in my power to let them know they were wrong contact their HR, talk to someone above your boss, let them know what they did is wrong. Even if you don't get a lawyer, maybe you voicing your opinion will help the next girl in a similar situation :) in Indiana there is something called COBRA insurance and it basically extends the length of your insurance, I am not super familiar with it just have heard of it.
