Hand me down crisis
So we found out we are having a little girl! Yay!
@yarnell that's a good idea. I didn't think about telling her I already have the stuff. Plus she dosnt come around often. (If we don't go to her house, we never see her) I'll just keep 1 or 2 outfits and put them on her when we go over then haul the rest off. I have a 2 door car tho lol idk how to move it
Does she know u have baby stuff simply tell her you already have it and taking what ever she is going to give you will be a waste to give it to someone who really needs it thats all put your foot down! And if she gives you a hassle take it and donate it when she ask u simply tell her uou missed it I already put it on her a little white lie I know but u can do that
Who has room for 6 fifty gallon barrels??? I can't take them to donate or keep because I literally can't take them at all.
I will just have to deal with her gossiping about how ungrateful I am...
@fergie I'm asking for advice because everything I have thought of won't work. Everyone is saying things that I have already considered but can't do. That's why I am explaining why I can't do them. I'm not trying to be ungrateful, I'm just trying to find a happy medium.
@just if my mother was offering used clothes I could tell her no.
The thing is my mil looks for reasons to complain about me... This is the woman who told people I wasn't actually pregnant (I didn't show untill 5month with my first) that I was just lazy. She also complains to my hubby about how much she can't stand me.
I'm trying to be a people pleaser for the sake of her.
Say you don't want them. That's it. She can't MAKE you take them. I took hand me downs, bit they were all nice clothes, in good condition! I'm pretty sure my family throws away gross/stained clothes instead of trying to get rid of them on to someone else. I've given away or sold some of my daughter's old clothes. I go through them first. Whatever is stained or no good for whatever reason, I throw out. Who wants stained clothes?! You're MIL shouldn't even be offering stained clothes. Say no, and that they'll end up in the trash anyway. But thanks anyway!
Maybe ask to go through and take what you want. A lot of the hand me downs I was given have gone through 3+ babies and the large majority were in excellent condition and still in style. And then I simply gave back what I didn't want. If she gets upset that you didn't take it ALL, just stand your ground that you didn't NEED it all. Its like you said, she'll criticize no matter what you do and you could still get some really nice, FREE clothes. By taking basics from her collection that frees up money for you to buy your little girl even more.
Also to all the people saying donate them,, I can't do that either :(
She literally goes to Every Salvation Army/ clothes closet store within a 2 hour radius and buys clothes every weekend.
I would have to pack all 6 50gallon barrels (which won't even fit in my car) hour and hours away or else she will just end up seeing them anyway.
@ginger is really not that easy. She literally has no generous bone in her body. She has this thing in her head where she thinks she has to compete with my mother for best grandma (which is 100% made up on her part) my mother buys expensive items and I don't even ask her too. The thing is, my mom and my mil work at the same place, expect my mil gets paid more. However she refuses to buy anything new from the store. Well my mom only buys new items.
So in my mil's head more (even if it's old) = better.
I have tried telling her we don't need so many clothes, but she brags about how much clothes she is giving us and how we will never need to buy anything again.
She wants us to take all the clothes from size newborn - 24months all at once now.
Simple as cutting cake.. tell her no. She's only being generous. My LO got a lot of hand-me-down clothes as a newborn and he is now 2 and still gets them from people at my grandpa's church. I take them and use them. When I am done with them I donate them to people or donation centers. New clothes for a baby or toddler doesn't even matter..that's why I buy used clothes with the small exception of new ones on holidays and birthdays. I'm just frugal like that. Graciously decline the clothes and tell her although you appreciate her kindness, you already have more than enough clothes for the baby.
Just say no. I gave stuff away to friends from my family, but it was all new! Tags still on. We had 3 boys born at once and so much stuff was bought! My baby is a girl and I will only pass in things that are nice and new or like new. If you don't want it just say no, it's that simple! She will be fine.
I would be brutally honest. If she's going to difficult about it you have nothing to lose.
I'd say look I know this will sound bad and I don't want to be wasteful but.. I seriously won't use many of these clothes. Sorry.
Can you be bothered selling them and splitting the money with her? It may soften the blow if you hand over some $$8
I love hand me downs but some clothes especially toddler age are better off in the bin.
From experience (with my son) she will complain to me if she doesn't see her outfits on my child. I went through this once with my son, (not so many clothes) and she will know if I'm not using them
@mrs I should have been more detailed. She literally has 6 fifty gallon barrels full of clothes that are stained or faded. Non are matching outfits
I took a lot of clothes that were just gross from people to be nice and just threw them away or used them as back up burp rags or if it was laundry day. Idk why people expect us to put our babies in disgusting stained clothes. I buy most of my daughters clothes from Facebook selling groups second and sometimes third hand but there always nice clothing..
She might get mad but i would just tell her you don't need them and she's have better luck donating them.
We have a racist on the APP ‼️

Let's see if we can manage it ladies! No arguing!

We finally did it after 10 months!!!!
need suggestions....
So at work we have a drink thief. Any time we put a drink in the fridge it disappears. I swear I know who it is. So far he's taken drinks from everyone that works in the office, we even put a sign to not take anything you didn't pay for and wrote our names on the drinks. The person I think is taking them works out of the office so we never get to see who is drinking them.
❤️Getting to know you❤️
Since our May group is growing strong and we have a lot of new mommies joining and sharing their bfp's...Thought it will be fun to get to know each other as we all share our pregnancy journey!
I just gave my cousin 5 trash bags of clothes that other people gave me. I told her I didn't know the condition of them so look through them keep what you want and donate the rest. That's always an option.
