Iris, if I'm lucky 1-2 years. He's only 9 (he's a lab) but he had a very devestating injury a few years ago and the arthritis and pain have seriously aged him. I think sometime in the next year or two it's just going to be cruel to keep him alive. He's also going blind, has multiple allergies, and is developing some stomach issues. We literally drop over $150 a month just into him alone. It's killing me, but he's DHs buddy and the last puppy left in the family from DHs parents stud dog.
Iris, right? 5 years of it. I feel like s*** saying that when this crabby old a****** kicks the bucket I'll be happy, but it's true.
Oh, and every time dh leaves on an assignment the dog has to do something crazy. Like MacGyver his way out of the fence and go chase the neighbors goats, run away, and cause himself so much pain he can't move for three days.
Oh, when DH left this last time, the dog walked in the house from being outside and pissed on my freshly shampooed carpet. I swear I was thisclose to murder.
I looove potatoes so much. I may need to make one tonight because of this.
I have a love/hate relationship with my husband's dog. Don't judge me, I've spent most of my life rescuing, rehabbing, and rehoming dogs. This is the one single dog out of hundreds that I just want to ? ?. He was unfixed and essentially untrained when DH and I got together. He let him run the house, and has major dominance issues. I've put hundreds of personal hours into training him, I've enlisted the help of multiple experts, and at the end of the day he's still a hyperactive, dominant, a****** that will run anyone over, steal anything off of floors, counters, hands, and if something upsets him he'll retaliate by pissing/ s*** ting on the floor, chewing stuff up, and running away.
Not to mention the fact that he's a 77lbs dog. So it's not like it's a little dog. And we've dropped over $5,000 worth of surgery alone into him. Now he's arthritic and crabby on top of it.
So I love him for the fact that he's a living breathing animal. I hate him for his personality, his loose screws, and the fact that I'm the one who has to do all the s*** with him because DH is gone so much. Oh, and he hates my kids. Bastard.
