Also learning about insurance. So many people have no idea what a deductible or coins Iran was is or why they are paying part of what was billed. My parents taught me all this stuff, not the school. It’s our responsibility to educate our kids for the world.

And I agree with @Under about providing more career-focused & interest-based coursework once students reach high school.

As a young adult... 17, 18, 19... some of that responsibility falls on their shoulders to seek out that knowledge. In this day & age it is easy to find information on those things (cleaning, auto maintenance). Where is the personal responsibility? Again, I do not feel that these things are the responsibility of the school.

I grew up having to learn everything via school, as pp mentioned. I was not able to rely on my mother, unfortunately. She did teach me How to clean/cook @6yrs+

It may not be the schools responsibility but some parents (like my mom) didn’t teach me crap so it’d be nice to know helpful things for being on my own instead of a drama class. As an elective it’d be a good idea imo

How to clean your house, budget, and basic auto maintenance sound like things parents should be teaching their kids. It honestly blows my mind that people think it’s the responsibility of schools to teach that stuff.

It was mandated for us to Economics as a Senior. I took AP. We definitely learned about taxes and budgeting.

Why don’t you teach them? Schools aren’t responsible for every aspect of education.

ETA sorry that reads as rude. I mean, we as parents can teach life skills, because the schools only teach to test.

I agree. Plus many more life subjects

But that stuff isnt on the state tests, so it’s just not important, you know. ?

Schools are so...ugh...these days.

Classes that teach you life basics should be required. Our high school got rid of classes like that. People would be better prepared for life after school if they made them mandatory.

We had classes that taught stuff like that but they aren't mandatory and kids usually select the fun classes for their electives.

Agree with pp. I still know all about the Pythagoream theorum. Never used it and never will. Would be much better to have learned taxes or even accounting.

Taxes, how to clean your house, how to budget, and basic cooking and auto maintenance should be taught.

I've never used algebra or any math higher than basic in my life.

We had a class that taught us about taxes in high school. I thought schools had that.

Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no, his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me and did something else with an other girl.... and it's 10:51 am now and he hasn't texted me at all. and after he dropped me off I texted him saying what I felt and nothing. I don't know if I'm over reacting or what or what should i do. do i wait until he text me?
