It is not normal to be in a sitting position and pass bowels. It's just not natural. Having your legs raise like in a squatting position will make you strain less.

KPatrick...thanks! My parents did the walls (the floor is actually linoleum). They also did my kitchen, kids bathroom and laundry room all in tile as well.

Your not technically "squatting". It raises your legs up so that your body is squatting but your still sitting on the toilet.

Actually, I have been doing this for 13 years... Went to a health seminar as a teenager and they told us to squat. I can't have a bm without squatting now.
