I wonder if it's the trays you have, maybe it only works in the plastic kind? Just guessing here, I have no idea!

I've resigned myself to cloudy ice and having to tell people "this is a pac man and not a wheel of cheese"

There is, but it requires a machine that keeps the water constantly moving and it freezes it from the inside out. At least that's how they do those giant blocks for carving. Which are perfectly clear.
I was too late.... May be there is no such thing as absolutely clear ice, may be they just want you to thibk there is so you could be jelous of their 'clear ice'

I tried turning down the freezer to low, and placing the tray at the very bottom of the freezer, at the very top and the middle ???
My husband said I should use a vibrator to shake the bubbles out while it freezes. I did not attempt that one ???

I used RO water (reverse osmosis), distilled, purified and drinking. Believe me. I gave it a valiant effort ????
If you turn down the setting on the freezer and they freeze slower will that make it clearer? And may be stir it occasionally?
Your not using tap water? You need boil it let it cool boil again use distilled water. Sorry , you probably know this. .

Apparently it has to do with the rate at which cooling happens because the cloudyness is from first minerals and what not...and absent of those it comes from air bubbles because it freezes from the outside in. Trapping air bubbles in the center and creating cloudyness. So every attempt is basically trying to force the air bubbles out before you freeze it...which doesn't work! I tried doing it in a plate of pre-chilled salt water and that resulted in the air bubbles creating a layer at the top of the ice. #science
I make chocolates and jello from agar agar, but i was never worried about the ice. Now i have to go check if my ice is cloudy, like i don't have enough things to worry about ?
squishymommy1Многодетная мама (5 детей)
Yes...twice on 1 attempt. Covered in plastic wrap and frozen in a cooler on another (the clearest....but still cloudy in the center) ????
squishymommy1Многодетная мама (5 детей)
No, people don't want to drive this far ????
Boredom...maybe a touch of OCD ?

My DH suggested wine....but I'm not the best at getting the trays into the freezer without getting water all over the place and licking wine off the floor probably isn't appropriate.
Well damn it lol. You could also freeze colored things like juice or wine...I think that'd be cool too!
squishymommy1Многодетная мама (5 детей)
No, because I tried it with 4 different types of water ???

I have some that I use for home made gummies. If you have enough gelatin, they don't break as you push them out. The easiest way is to push in from the underside and they usually pop right out.
For the ice, do you think it could be the water... like maybe different minerals or something are the issue?

I made some that was clearer than others (and it was a giant PITA at that). But none that was perfectly clear like I would like. Le sigh
I've found that placing my ice trays so that they are almost touching the top of my fridge freezer results in clearer ice.
You know, after the glass dildo post Idk if clear ice is the best way to distinguish that difference.
?????

Because how else are you supposed to be able to tell my enterprise is a enterprise and not an oddly shaped penis?

Strategic picture taking. The floor under my table is littered with crumbs ?

My DH found a recipe for making "gummi Bears" out of jello and karo syrup so he wants to use my precious ice molds for it. It would be hard to get the jello out of the molds intact I think. At least some of them. Even the ice is hard to get out.

I'm devastated e.k. Google is full of lies.
Wyo...I still use them for ice. It's just not clear ?

Squishymommy1 I made a post for you about the clear ice thing.
