Trick or treating last night, I saw a little girl (roughly 5 or 6) jump into the front seat of her dads truck with no seat of any kind. Makes me so sad how careless some people are.

Texas...no, harnessed seats should have chest clips.

Ответить

Bun, maybe there was a base for the seat?

I've never used seatbelts for my carseats. So it would probably look like I'm just putting him in the back.

OMG, Bun!!! See?! I hate infant seats! Always used improperly!

That's so dumb! Totally defeats the purpose!

The radian SUCKS as a booster (only goes into high back) it is outgrown at the same time as the harness.

Ответить

squishymommy1Многодетная мама (5 детей)

Possible depending on the kid...backless boosters are really for the older more mature kids. Little kids (under 8ish) tend to lean and slump out of position when asleep so the headwings are important...as well as average sized younger children have issues with the shoulder belts fitting properly without the belt guides in the high backs.

Ответить

I think so, but I'm not sure. The Diono Radian converts to a backless booster, I believe, so I think yes?

Ответить

deleted-user

deleted-user

kvonq, high-back boosters are the step between a carseat and a backless booster. I think the backless boosters are more for that last awkward stage where the kids aren't quite tall enough for the seatbelt to be in the correct position on their shoulder.

Ds will be rf until baby #2 gets here. Which according to my plan he will be 2 1/2. 2 rf seats will not fit in my car.

Best boosters? My oldest is in a Kiddy Cruiserfix. The Diono booster is awesome too. It used to be called the Monterey? It's called something else now I think. Look on their site. The Britax Parkway and Clek Oobr are nice booster too.

They shouldn't be in boosters until roughly 5-6. Closer to 6 is best if your going to switch. My 10 year old just moved into a booster full time a couple weeks ago.

Cheese, it would be heartbreaking if you lost your LO because he "doesn't like it". Your child's safety should be your first worry.

Jade, I love your new picture. So cute!

Ответить

Harper, I tell them that their legs are more likely to be broken in a FF accident. lol. That seems to do the trick. Sometimes I tell them that one of Squishy's kids asked to be turned back to RF because it was comfier for his legs.

When are car manufacturers going to start making seats that can RF so we can stop hearing this tired line? lol.

Ответить

deleted-user

deleted-user

Cheese, can you get a mirror so you can see him? I don't exactly understand what you're "paranoid" of? "He doesn't like it" just isn't a reason to FF. his spine won't ossify for years, meaning it's essentially just soft cartilage now and can't protect his spinal cord in an accident where all the force will be placed on his neck, as opposed to rearfacing, where it will be protected. That means he is exponentially more likely to be internally decapitated in an accident. I am not trying to make you feel bad, but it really isn't a "parenting differently" kind of thing. It's safest. There isn't an argument. Will you let him ride bikes with no helmet because he doesn't like them? Will you let him refuse a seatbelt entirely because he doesn't like them? I'm honestly trying to see your perspective, but I can't.

Ответить

My 5 month old is 23 lbs today and we still have him rf. I like my kids breathing, non decapitated, and having brain activity. That's just my personal preference though.

Theres no good excuse to have a child turned ff under 2!

I love rear facing too. I'm a carseat nazi and it would seem I'm the only one from my area. So many of my friends on fb have their children strapped in wrong or ff way too early. A friend of mine gave birth almost exactly 2 months after I did. When my daughter turned 1 I kept her RFing and when her daughter turned 1 a few months later she immediately switched her to FFing. When I went to visit her she went to get my daughter out of the car, opened the door and said "you're killing me with this. Why is she still RFing?" My reply was simply "because it's safer". She even tried that tired crammed leg line on me. Pshh, no ma'am, save it because it's bull s*** .

Ответить

reticchic, you'll see plenty of LOs rearfacing well past the age of one year on BB! It's 500% safer and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends rearfacing until at least age 2. NHTSA also recommends extended rearfacing :)

Ответить

It's funny her mom actually said something to me after she got off work. She pulled the whole "where did her legs go, that doesn't seem safe" ....

I just talked her ear off. Atleast putting her in a 5 point harness would be a step up. The darn seatbelt digs into her neck in the booster and she is very fidgety, I hate it.

Ответить

Dimples, hopefully she liked it enough to talk about it nonstop and your sm turns her!

I had to take my 5 year old sister to school today. She usually sits in a booster with her mom (my step-mom) improperly. I have tried to educate her but it doesn't work. Anywho I told her that if I'm driving her I'm properly restraining her. She is on the small size, very petite. She was rear facing and all. She enjoyed watching out the back window the whole time :)

Ответить

I love my infant carrier Jade!! Please don't take it away :)

The main reason I'm keeping her in it as long as possible is because its cold here in the winter and I like that I can bring it in the house so its nice and warm when I put her in it. She's only ever in it when we're actually in the car so can I keep it? Pretty please??

My kiddos will rear face until they reach the limits on their seats. And it is mostly thanks to Squishy! I have become the carseat nazi in my family (according to my mom).

Ответить

I switch 1st child at 1. She turns 2 in December. Yesterday I flipped her car seat back to rear facing.

Ответить

deleted-user

deleted-user

Yes, ma'am. It ruins the locking mechanism on the seat (where it clicks into a base) so it's less effective in an accident. Also, a huge number of babies are hurt (some even die) each year from the cart tipping over and the baby falling out. IN the cart (where groceries usually go) is the only safe place for an infant carrier in a shopping cart :)

Ответить

deleted-user

deleted-user

I hate rear facing!! But I still do it lol my 13 month old cries the whole time in the car... Were working on it. He's getting better! I couldn't live with myself if something happened to him because I turned him around early out of convenience.

Ответить

Now I need a Foonf followed by a Frontier lol...

Am I the only one who wishes infant carriers would just be abolished? I see them used incorrectly SO OFTEN. I can't even believe the number of them I've seen forward facing, atop shopping carts, as a sleeping place for babies, and never being taken out except for diaper changes. I hate them!

I did a carseat seminar at my kids school and made flyers for them to pass out. Many children were not in boosters in kindergarten here. The law is 8 years old in my state. People just weren't aware. I see a lot more kids properly strapped into seats now at the kids school. Not all, but a lot.

Ответить

I'm one of the few odd ones in my town too. Most people around here turn at 1 year. A lot of people don't even have their child in a seat when they need to be. We also had a 6 month old killed in a car wreck last week. The baby wasn't in any kind of seat :( It made me so angry.

Ответить

I want to do extended rear facing since bb stalking you squishy... Can you pm me some good car seat options??? I need all the help as a ftm and I'm petite so there's a good chance my kids will be rear facing for a long time! Any insight from you would be awesome. You are the reason I started researching car seat safety! So thanks :) ?

Usually when doing seat checks there are many police officers. We've never had anyone be ticketed, but we've also never had anyone say "screw you I'm doing it anyways" when presented with the facts.

Ответить

squishymommy1

I've seen some crazy s*** Bun...people who've taken seats from the trash with no covers, using belts or other random things to replace harnesses. Seats being held in by bungy cords...the list is long.

The max weight depends on the seat. The Britax frontier being the highest at 90 lbs. *My* kids remain harnessed until they literally outgrow the seat. However there is no evidence (because it's never been studied) that harnessing past booster readiness age is safer. For me though? Knowing race car drivers utilize 5 point harnesses while traveling at high rates of speed speaks to me. So my kids stay harnessed until they literally don't fit.

Ответить

SWING SEATS?????? How do you even address that? Do you have police there that can ticket them if they attempt to leave?

(Also, I'd like to say I've also learnt a log from Squishy! ❤️)

Ответить

Also I asked this on the last post that was deleted: What is the max weight for forward facing? And when do they harness out into a booster? I have a safety 1st 65 and it rf to 40 inches and 40lbs and ff 52inches and 65 lbs. do you think I'll need another ff harness seat or a booster?

I work in a pharmacy with a drive through. We had a couple one day in the store that had their baby in the seat. She was strapped in perfectly and placed in the cart. I was so proud.

Until they came back through the drive through 5 minutes later with their less than a week old baby laying on the mother's lap in the front seat. Mama was buckled up. I wanted so bad to tell them that the carseat is for the car, not the store. SMH
