8 yr old question
My 8 yr old son asked me if he could be in the room while I deliver his sibling.
Honestly, if it was me I think it would add stress on me. To worry about him not seeing your lower half, if he gets uncomfortable, if there were god forbid complications. I think the idea of it is great and I think you are doing an amazing job that he would want to be in the room. However, if it were me I think the cons outweigh the pros.
I would totally let my kids be in there with me. I think it's a wonderful thing for them to experience. I would never force my kid to be there if they didn't want to but yours asked so I would totally do it
I think it's good, but I would talk with him about how painful it can be and you might cry or scream but you will be ok when it's over. That would be my hardest part but if assure him all that it might be easier if you do end up crying or screaming. And in between contractions assure him some more that you are ok. And have mil keep assuring him that you will be ok when the contraction is finished.
My 6 yr old dd was there for her sister's birth. We didn't even ask, we just brought her. I knew I was a fast birther and kept in mind that if things got complicated, she and her dad would have to leave. All went well and they even asked her if she wanted to cut the cord.
She knew from the age of2 that she came out of my vagina and school had sex Ed starting in kindergarten so she was pretty comfortable in there.
My kids were 11 and 13 when I had my last baby. I went into labor in the middle of the night and have fast labors. For me it wasn't a big deal. They were behind the curtain heard everything with seeing. It was a great experience for our family!
Dd will be if plans fail. They do recommend having an extra person in case they need to leave the room.
Op-
Oh? , well i guess you have alot to think about . You still have lot's of time
Pp, this will most likely be my last baby so I can't wait till he's older. I love babies but I can't handle being sick and sore anymore.
It depends , you can leave your son kind of traumatized if you scream ,cry or show you are going through pain . Yes it's a beautiful experience but then there are side effects that may happen. If you are one of those strong woman that can hold all that back or you have a smooth delivery I'd say go for it . Otherwise I'd suggest you wait till he's older .
@mama, my hospital has all that too! I completely forgot about the curtain! That's a great idea with videos. Thank you!
I think its great!! Great way to include him and idk just a family experience type thing..
want my oldest in . shes 6 but idk lol
Where I delivered, it was a huuuuge room. They have couches and a tv set up on the other side of the room and a curtain that closed in case people wanted to be there but didn't want to see anything. Maybe that's something you can look into at your hospital? I think it's sweet that he wants to be there. You should probably make sure he fully understands what's going on. Maybe let him watch some kid friendly birth videos or something.
He's pretty mature for his age. He will be 9 at the time baby comes. I am comfortable with it but my only concern is him being uncomfortable while I'm pushing. I'll ask him when the time comes if he changed his mind. I don't mind having mil in the room to keep eyes on him since I know dh will be by my side the entire time. I have a little over 6 months to go so we will see lol.
He does know the anatomy of boys and girls and knows where babies come out. Lol he just doesn't know how they're made just yet ? dh told him that men have special tools for moms when ds asked. Lol
I think I would say yes, but I'd probably want someone else there to be able to take him out if s*** e got too real.
My four year old was at my water birth. I think I've got some pictures on here if you go through my posts (nothing too revealing) he did great. Every time someone came to visit me he would show them the tub where his brother came out.
I would if they wanted to be there. I think most hospitals have an age limit, but it never hurts to ask.
While I think it's beautiful and more power to you if you allow it, I personally couldn't.
I personally would up until a certain point. I wouldn't be able to fully push, scream, moan, cry, curse, vomit, sh*t, piss and do whatever else I needed to do to deliver. I would be too focused on making sure my oldest is comfortable at all times.
Yes I would want them there. IMO it's never too early to learn about birth, and what an amazing experience to witness a birth, especially the birth of a sibling. Just have an adult there who's sole responsibility is looking after the child. You don't want someone who is going to be distracted and trying to watch the birth instead of watching the kid.
I honestly think it would be a beautiful experience for him and he will get to appreciate you in a different way I don't know kind of like a super mom. Lol

I'll be 50 with a 32 yr old, 29 yr old, 27 yr old, 25 yr old and 10 yr old 😯🙁
