What would you do?

My 2 German shepherds jumped the fence today into our neighbors yard.

Pp, I'm really not sure. I'm about to look up on it though.

Aren't chihuahuas known for not being super healthy & having things like that happen? Like they just randomly drop dead with no warning? I think if a German Shepard attacked a dog that small there would be some kind of visible damage.

Have them do a necropsy (animal autopsy). If it was your dogs fault, pay for cremation and shelter pup.

? we just are good people that know accidents happen.

If my neighbor felt like his animals or children were in any danger, I'm sure things would be different but like I said... he's not mad and his wife apologized this morning with acting so harshly about my dogs.

I'm sorry if my dogs annoy you by jumping another's fence.

I also trust my dogs with my life.. more so than most people. they are amazing dogs, great with my kids and others as well.

ETA, of course I would be upset but my dogs didn't attack the little dog. And I also wouldn't hate someone if one of mine got injured or lost his or her life.

I'm so glad you think my thousands of dollars of training my dogs are naive and foolish... my 1 year old can walk both my dogs on a leash without one problem. They jumped a f*** ing fence one time, not went after someone aggressively.

Btw, "you're"** ?

Well sounds like you learned something from the situation... and I wasn't arguing with you how could I have if you didn't respond I was talking to one of the previous posters who just like you are very naive and foolish to think that your sweet innocent dog could or will never harm something. But let's say someone harms your dog while your not home since you know you oklahomians leave your dogs outside. Bet you would be very upset. Just like your neighbors wife was. Just saying maybe invest in a taller fence at your new place or runners like another person suggested ^…

Ames, well they weren't pissed. They were okay with it since they've played together before lots of times.

And what's with your attitude? It's like you're arguing with me when I haven't even responded since last night.. ?

ALL of my neighbors have dogs and it's normal to leave your dogs outside while you aren't home.

The wife doesn't hate us because her dog died. She hated the situation which is understandable.

I'm not going to sit here and argue with you and your "not my dogs" thing. I've owned my dogs 7 and 4 years and this is the 1st time they've gotten out.

The dog didn't die because of some viscous attack. Dh and I have spent thousands of dollars with getting them trained. German shepherds have a mentality of a 7 yr old child and that's fully grown. They're kids at heart and have not ever shown anger besides one incident when ds1 got bit and my female charged out of the house and broke my screen door. Even then, she didn't bite or show aggression. She chased the dog back into their yard.

My neighbors dog could've easily died from something that was normal for her being 12 years.

I'm sorry if you get problems like this where people aren't understanding but we were and took care of the situation. Our neighbors are not mad at us. The husband understands and believes that his dog died from anything other than dog aggression from our dogs.

Dogs get out all the time and we all our nice neighbors and either put them back or take the dogs in until the owner can get them. I've done it plenty of times with my other neighbor and his husky and the dogs across the street. It's just the kind of people we are in Oklahoma. ?

We are moving in a couple of weeks so the fence isn't an issue anymore. We took our dogs to a family members house this morning until we move.

I have a 3 year old husky/Rottweiler. My in laws have 2 small terrier ish dogs. My dog is playful/ not aggressive .. but the one little dog just gets going. He physically shakes he gets so worked up/anxious. We stopped bringing our dog over there for the sole reason I was afraid the small dog would have a heart attract one day and just drop. It happens.

You didn't do anything wrong, it doesn't even sound like your dogs did as the neighbor was ok with them and the little dog didn't have any bite marks. Little thing probably died of fright or something but legally it sounds like your not liable. You could offer to replace the dog if you feel that bad? It's a poor situation but I don't see how doing anything differently could have saved the little dog. Maybe take it to the vet to see how it died so your certain.

-This could have been the first time her dogs got loose

-They offered to come get he dogs, but neighbor said it was fine

Obviously it's not like they didn't care about their dogs getting loosed. I guess it depends on where you live. Everyone around here leaves their dog in the back yard if they gotta run some errands or work.

German Shepard are high need dogs. They need to burn energy, they cannot do that In a house.

How sad :( but it doesn't sound like it was your dog. I do agree on making the fence taller though! My old neighbors dog who was normally very nice got into my yard, and I went out there to escort it back to its house and it started growling at me, slowly walking up to me and it's hair was standing straight up! I was 8 months pregnant and just about shat myself. Anyway, you never know with dogs ?

Chihuahuas are known to have seizures especially tea cup chihuahuas. my brothers chihuahua always had seizures one day she had one and it killed her ?. If there was no visible scars or blood your dogs had nothing to do with it and won't get put down.

Well most dog owners are all unsafe then. As it's common to leave dogs outside. My dog is not a shepherd so I do not need to worry about him jumping a fence and check often for any holes he may have tried to dig. Why would a child be in my backyard if I was not home? We have garbage can in front of the side gate and a lock on the inside.

I didn't say anything about kenneling the dogs.... I'm sorry but what u and all your neighbors do is very unsafe! Great example OP. What if a child was in the yard or walking down the street and your dog snapped. Then what? And don't give me that O not MY dog! Because guess what you never know what could happen. PP is right you need some proper training in dog ownership. There is more out there than to kennel a dog while you are not at home. Like PP stated.

I'm sorry for the situation but it all could have been prevented..

It doesn't sound like your dogs did this. As for them jumping the fence this is common for German Shepherds. You may need to put in a higher fence or get a. Runner the long kennel type that goes outside. I agree it's wrong to leave them crated inside. I leave my dog outside when we are working. Leaving him crated all day is wrong.

If you properly kennel train they don't potty in them. And it's not safe to leave your dog's out if they don't stay in the yard. They could get into people's garbage or whatever, run into the street and get hit get attacked by other animals.... get picked up by animal control.... numerous things can happen. If your dogs don't stay in your yard they need to be secured while you're not home. That's proper pet ownership 101 lady. Either get a runner or leave them inside and train them properly. Or get a higher fence if you're adamant about leaving them outside unattended.

Ames pretty much EVERYBODY where I live leaves their dogs out in the FENCED yard when they aren't home. Me included. That's a very unnecessary comment. It's normal. And why lock your dogs up in a kennel for them to s*** and piss when they can run around in your yard all day and not go crazy? The people that do that, look insane to me. That poor animal! Left in a kennel all day when it could be outside.

For the future though. Don't leave your dog's out while you're not home of they don't stay in the yard.

Sorry but I would be pissed if my neighbors dogs came and jumped the fence into my yard. You need to fix that ASAP! And why were your dogs outside while no one is home? I don't think your dogs did anything but possibly scared or worked up that dog to death... if I was the wife I would hate you guys! If your dogs jump the fence be prepared for something even worse to happen... you never know what an animal or even a human is capable of. I would never leave my pets outside while I wasn't home..

I once had a chihuahua mix that my doberman mix stepped on and he passed away about an hour later. Did the weird half body shaking thing, staring off in the distance at nothing, excessive drooling... vet said it was a ruptured spinal cord.... so maybe your dog did do it but not maliciously or intentionally... I'm sorry for their dog :(

Нравится Ответить

Sounds like the chihuahua died of a sudden heart attack ?

I did have 4 chihuahuas but 2 passed away in the last 4 weeks from sudden heart attacks. One was 6 years old the other was 8 years old.

Нравится Ответить

I don't see how you guys would be at fault whatsoever. There's no evidence of an attack. And the guy said don't rush.. It's an unfortunate situation, but they shouldn't blame anyone.

I told dh to take some pics but when he came out of the house I asked to see them... he said he felt wrong to take pics of their dead dog. ?

They buried her in their backyard.

Don't get them a new dog, offer to cover the funeral/cremation costs. This is unfortunate for everyone involved.

I also don't think they'll put your dog down over this because there's no actual proof.

Нравится Ответить

I would take pictues of the little dog incase they call the police after they no longer have his body. I dont think ur dogs did it, no evidence

Нравится Ответить

Okay, thank God! ?

I was really worried! It was a Chihuahua and I know they shake like they're cold all the time.

There was no blood or anything, that's why the husband talked his wife out of calling the police.

It's a sad situation! ?

By the way, if they call AC over it, and there are no visible signs of your dogs aggressively attacking theirs, it won't go anywhere.

AC won't put your dogs down for no reason, I promise.

Нравится Ответить

Oh wow that's so awful. :(

If there's no visible trauma, then you're not responsible for little ones death. If the dog was old or even a certain breed/type, the play could definitely be the reason behind it.

What a tragic situation. All you can really do here is offer your condolences.
