Advice for the sickies, don't take cold medicine, decide You feel better and go out and mingle with the general public. That's half the problem right there.

This is so sad. I live in Edmond so I've been keeping up with it.

I live in Moore and have a 2 1/2 year old boy. It's so sad and I'm almost paranoid to take him on play dates this flu season. Oklahoma has had a few people die over the past few months.

Yea i never get the flu shot neither do my kids. It just mutates into stronger and more resistant strains. The same with people that take antibiotics for every little thing until they catch a mutated strain then no antibiotic can help because there bodies never learned to fight on its own. It happens people. I am all for vaccinating when necessary but not for everything and most definitely not a flu shot u need every year.

A 5 year old girl in my city died this week from the flu. Symptoms on Sunday, doctor's office Monday during the day, by Monday evening she was in cardiac arrest.

Yes she had received the flu shot.

The strain that killed her was the same strain she got the shot for.

Emmy passed away last night right before 9 :-( my heart goes to her family...

(and Pp, there is certainly not only one strain not covered by the flu shot this year. There are many strains out there that people are getting sick with.)

I agree with @kmacc on this one that even if everyone got the vaccine every year the flu would still be around. It mutates so quickly and there are so many different strains that it will never be eradicated. It's like the common cold, you'll never be Immune.

Poor girl, hope she can make a full recovery

To my knowledge, many people make the mistake of taking things like NyQuil when they have the flu. They sleep a lot and don't move around much, which allows fluid to sit and build up in the lungs (and it's not good to lay around all the time anyway), which leads to things like pneumonia, which can kill someone who isn't healthy. This is why I stay active when I'm sick and I don't do cough suppressants. There is a difference between getting plenty of rest and being totally immobile. Stay hydrated, move around when you can, and take care of yourself and you'll be fine.

I rather be 25% protected than none. It's the avian flu virus that is not covered by the shot his year, however it still protects you from the other strains of the flu! Praying she recovers!

Flu shot is only about 29% effective this year....chances are it would have done nothing for this girl, or those unable to be vaccinated.

Prayers for the family. It's been a really tough flu season and it's really just starting to pick up. The floors in my hospital have many of the private rooms filled with flu patients.

I know!!! I hate this time of year! 29 ppl have died last time I heard in Oklahoma.. And one was in the age 0-4 :-( sad!!! I've taken lo out but he is covered in the car seat and anything I touch gets a sanitizer wipe and afterwards I put like a ton of hand sanitizer on before I touch him and before I get him out of the car seat I change clothes lol. We pick his brother up from school and the first thing he does is put hand sanitizer on :-) this sickness just makes me really nervous

Poor girl..its very scary! I was reading a news article that said this years flu shot is only 29% affective against this years strain. 4 people have died in the county's near me as well. I will pray for this lil one and her family

4 people in my county have died from complications with the flu. I'm scared to take ds out, we only run errands later at night so less people are out. This is one of my worst fears.
