Brother I didn't know about
Brother I didn't know about
So I get a pic of a text from my cousin this morning telling me that my dad had a baby boy in 1985 and him and the mom gave him up for adoption.. His wife was searching the internet for info like numbers and such when she came across my little brother justices fb and saw that my cousin Jessica was a mutual friend. They had went to school together .. so she decided to ask my cousin about it and yup the papers show my dad's name and everything!! No one knew about this and I don't think my mom does either if she did she's good at keeping secrets lol. Well Jared (adopted son) is reaching out for my dad and I'm not sure how to tell my dad.. Do I just show him the convo between my cousin and Jared's wife or just tell him that I know? I just don't know how to start the conversation... I'm excited and really nervous!! I really just want to tell my mom and dad together but my mom is on chemo and needs to be stress free so I was thinking about just talking with my dad first and go from there..? I feel like my life is on some show or something.. Mom was diagnosed with cancer right before thanksgiving, my dad is dying (kidney failure) and is on a waiting transplant list.. I spent the holidays with my mom in the hospital right by her side. I had my son the day she went to a cancer center in Houston.. But now she's back home. I'm really stressed about her and scared but I never show it! Everyone says I'm the strongest in my family but when I'm by myself I just break down! If she doesn't know about my dad's son I don't want her to get mad that he didn't tell her. I hope she takes the news well. Any advice for me??

Show your dad the convos and leave it to him to tell your mom. I would imagine that she already know and just decided not to tell you guys. My grandma had a son when she was 19 , she put him up for adoption. She told each of her kids about him when they were 18 ( I think it was 18). In 3rd grade I found out about him, he had hired someone to find my grandma.

Really?! My grandma gave her first daughter up for adoption too! We tried contacting her well her siblings anyways and they didn't want any communication with my family... I just hope my dad feels the same as he does and wants him in his life or atleast to know his son.. I'm sure he will it's just really shocking cuz as soon as you think you know everything every family has it's secrets lol

That's what I was thinking.. He's not my biological father but he and my mom got married when I was like 5 so he is my dad... I think he will support it hopefully cuz he knew how I felt when I met mine when I was like 20. He gave up rights to me tho.. It similar but not really! My dad was probably 16-18 (have to do the math) but my donor was in his mid 20's. If my dad doesn't want to be apart of his sons life I'll support his decision but I would like to get to know my other family that I didn't know I had. :-) I'm excited lol the more the merrier! And I have a niece!! :-)

I agree with talking to your dad and taking it from there. Your mom may, or may not know.
It's a huge secret with my hubby, but he gave a son up for adoption when he was 18, even his own family doesn't know and he doesn't want them to. We have 7 kids and none of them know and idk if he'll ever tell them. I leave that up to him and honestly since it's such a big deal and secret to him I never talk about it and almost forget until I see something like this. Honestly he'd be irate for me telling you guys and it's not like we have any personal communication.
Only reason I know is when we first started dating years ago I stayed with a friend while he went to "look at something" at the mall. We got bored and went up to the mall and I seen him with this girl acting very close looking at something. It was pics the adoptive family sent, it was a closed adoption and they only sent them the first year.
I confronted him thinking the worst, you know, young, dumb and jealous and he finally told me what was up. Bm moved away not too long after that and it's just been swept under the carpet after all these years (he's 35 now, I'm 32).
Sometimes when I think about him, like now, I wonder if he looks like any of our children, if he knows he's adopted, if he'll come looking for us one day, etc, etc. A part of me really hopes he does... Even tho I had nothing to do with the situation I feel like a part of our family is missing. I want him to know he has 3 brothers and 4 sisters and that even though we didn't raise him, we'll always be here for him and even tho we don't talk about it, the rare times we have, my husband hopes he'll show up one day too :')

Things happen for a reason. I say tell your dad and sit back and watch what comes from it ?
Good luck with it all and hugs to your parents. Hope they are well soon xx

Yeah talk to your dad about it, maybe ask him if your mom knows, kinda go from there.
I met my sister for the first time when I was 16 she had no idea about me, we are only 6 months apart, we have the same dad different moms we also share a brother same thing, same dad different moms, I don't think our brother really wants anything to do with us. Only time will tell. Our father is on death row, so how the three of us connect, it's kinda rocky, but I have a great relationship with my sister. It took time.
Good luck :)

We met him last night.. I asked my dad yesterday if he wanted to read it or let me read to him. He chose me to read it.
Turns out him and this lady had a one night stand the summer after graduating. He never saw again after he went to college. The courts nor the attorneys called him or anything. No names were on the birth certificate only the attorney's paperwork. Jared didn't even know he was adopted till he received some paperwork from court records. They had to have a judge sign off so he can get his records.. It hurts my dad that he didn't know and kept apologizing to him last night that he didn't know and wasn't there for him. They are super happy about getting to know each other and I'm excited it turned out so well! I told him at 2 my dad had to leave to go to the doctor and called Jared when he had left. My mom wasn't home when I told him but when he got home she was there and he told her what had happened and that Jared and his family are coming over to meet them. Happened so fast. I literally just got home and my dad had called to go back to his house cuz Jared was already on his way :-) my mom was so shocked but she's accepting and happy to extend our family. They are super stoked about having a grand daughter cuz I have 2 boys and the last girl that was born in my family and that was 25 years ago lol. Turned out great! Thank you ladies for the support and advise!!
Also it's crazy cuz my dad bought his new car at the dealership where Jared works at.. And my mom and his wife drive the exact car and has the sane color :-) small world!
