Hey ladies, I've just learned that my 5 week old baby as an umbilical hernia by his doctor. Doctor said its fine and should go away on its own. Also, that i shouldn't worry about it. But, im concerned and as a mother of course!!! And I'm like okay it's not normal so i can't just forget about it. I've never experienced this with my other children. I'm worried if it hurts and is it uncomfortable?? Even though the doctor said no i cant help to think that its not. Has anyone experienced this with their child and can give me some info on anything i can do to help it heal let me know. I'm not asking for medical advice, just tips to comfort my baby through this from moms who experienced or know anyone who experienced it.

Lily had a small one that did go away on its own. It's okay and it doesn't cause pain.

This picture is a few months ago. It looks pretty normal now. It just doesn’t go in like normal belly buttons. Doesn’t bother him one bit.

My son had one. Rather big. I was told it was to big to close by itself but small enough it wasn’t hurting him. My son actually use to play with his. Since it wasn’t causing any problems they waited till after his first birthday for surgery.
There’s nothing you did or anything that could have prevented it.
I attached a picture of it. That was a few months before surgery.
Surgery was simple. They had him in and out in a few hours and he was up and running that night.

@raquely thanks for the info. Doctor told me the same just leave it alone, if needed surgery will be done @ age 5. I'm glad it doesn't hurt.
