Ugh my next appointment I have to drink the glucose drink. Am i allowed to say no thanks? Last pregnancy it left a burning feeling in my throat for days . This pregnancy I have Hyperemesis Gravidarum (hg) severe morning sickness and I already know I'll be puking it up right then and there

Honestly should've just asked my doctor first, since you don't understand what Hyperemesis Gravidarum is " 🤦"

Your doctor may allow you to test your blood sugars for a week instead... ask cause it may be your best option. Gd not only can cause a large baby that will potentially get stuck, but can cause the baby to have extremely low blood sugar upon birth if not taken care of. I wouldn't decline completely, just as for alternatives. Fyi to anyone who doesn't know, if you throw up the test it is invalid... no point in doing something that makes you sick of it will be invalid anyway

@hippiemummy, I’m not trying to argue with you, or be rude either. My first comment came off the wrong way, and I apologize for that. I absolutely hate confrontation, but I will defend myself if necessary. The bottom line is you know what’s best for you and your baby, so if you absolutely cannot take the nauseating aftermath of the glucose drink, ( I know how awful it is because I also was sick for weeks after taking it.) then you should discuss other options with your doctor that have the same results.

@miaheka I'm not trying to humilate you or whatever. It's not something I like to have to deal with. But it is something I try to avoid so if there's another option I will take it

@threeplusone, lol I don’t need to do research on something I had to go through before myself. You should really stfu and mind your own business. Nobody likes an instigator. @hippiemummy, I was hospitalized with HG so I do know, and I still took the glucose test because I listened to my doctor and did what was best for my baby. It’s only life threatening if not treated properly. So, instead of constantly focusing on the negative, why don’t you focus on the positive and do whatever you need to do that’s necessary to care for your baby. Arguing with me, trying to humiliate me, or trying to one up me isn’t going to do anything to help you or your baby. You’re not the only person in the world whose had HG.

Hyperemesis Gravidarum can be treated by fluids and antihistamines* .Just take the glucose test and asked to be kept as a patient.

@hippiemummy, Maybe ask if you can just monitor your sugars instead? I’ve seen some do that.

@miaheka you should really do some research before you say stupid things.

@hippiemummy don't let the ignorance of others bother you. I've never had HG but I know what it is and understand how severe and life threating it is. I'm sure if you ask your doctor they might have an alternative to that test you can do.

Call your Dr and ask for an alternative. They may have you take your sugar levels after meals for a little bit. If they can’t give you an alternative, you can refuse, but you may have to sign a paper saying you’ve refused the treatment, and your Dr may deny you as a patient.

Your doctor does things and has you take tests that are best for you to make sure you and your baby are healthy and protected throughout your pregnancy. What if you have GD but don’t know it because you made a stupid decision and refused to drink the glucose. GD is serious, so if I were you, I would just suck it up and drink the glucose drink to know for sure if you have it or not. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Call your office and see if you can do an alternative. They might work with you. You have the right to decline it, but testing for GD is important. I personally would never skip the test.

Yes you can refuse and ask to take your blood for a week just like you would if you had GD. That way they can see if your levels are high.

Im just saying I'm going to be throwing up for a week if I drink this. I've been medicated fluffy for a while I don't really want to trigger my sickness again last time I went to the ER

@angelreaper171, of course. It’s actually not a standard test that my midwife does unless there are compounding risk factors or symptoms present. Which is also the standard of care in quite a few other countries.

@tiffanyxbrooks well I've only seen my doctor once anyways so it's not like it would be a huge loss

I've just started temping because I believe that the reason I haven't had a BFP yet, after 20 months, is because I believe I may have a Luteal Phase Defect.
