I’m starting to second think about breastfeeding only because my son won’t latch unless I have the nipple cover on 😢 he use to latch good on my left side with no problem
Definitely ask her to look and see if there is a lip or tongue tie. Also show her how you are feeding, she may have some new tips.
When I first got a nipple shield (from my lactation consultant) it was the wrong size. She checked fit by unlatching baby and seeing if there was milk in the shield or squashed nipple. First one squashed nipple, second one milk and no pain. I forgot about that until now.
@kelsey19, I see a lactation consultant I just haven’t been able to see her this week to help me or anything
One tip my lactation consultant told me was when baby goes to latch try to get more than just your nipple into their mouth. A wide latch is a good latch.
It may just be latch/bottle preference then. If you want to stick with it you could make an appointment with a lactation consultant. Insurance usually covers a couple visits. Totally your choice though, momma!
@farmers_wife10, @kelsey19, idk if he have a lip/tongue tie and my lactation nurse gave me the right size nipple shield so Ik that’s not it and never had any trauma I may just be a poor latch cause we been have a lot trouble with it I think he rather have a bottle
If your nipples are already sore or have trauma the shield won’t make that go away during feedings. If you don’t have any nipple trauma, pain could be from an ill fitting nipple shield or a poor latch (especially if your baby has a tongue/lip tie).
My daughter had to use the shield until she was 6 months🤦🏽♀️🙃 then just latched without it one day lol still going strong at 10 months almost
With my first I used a shield for 5 weeks. Then one day he ripped it off and flung it across the room and latched himself in one motion.
While using the shield I never had any pain. Does your little one have a lip or tongue tie? A tie can cause problems latching and pain for you.
@kelsey19, I haven’t really been doing it that much I pump more because Idk if I’m using the shield right is it suppose to hurt ?
I had to use a shield for the first 2 or 3 weeks until he really got the hang of it. Now we’re 2 months into ebf and he does perfectly without the shield. He’s still pretty new and getting the hang of things. I know it’s hard not to get discouraged but I bet you both are doing great!

Why does he like to latch as if he's pinching my nipple 😭 I've gotten used to it now but damn he bruised my nipple at the beginning😅😥😑
Breastfeeding has my Nipples so sore , any solutions and yes she's latching right! neep help asap😩😩😩😩😖😖
Why won't my daughter latch i am sick of pumping :(
Did any moms breastfeed if so how long?I was only able to breastfeed my son for a week or two weeks I had a hard time getting him to latch and I would bleed when he wasnt latched right and they would hurt so bad and leak so much ....any suggestions or tips?🤷🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
Has anyone been able to successfully pump and feed instead of actually latching their baby on? the nurses have mentioned it as a backup plan since I'm having so many issues with getting him to latch and then staying latched without destroying my nipples and I was wondering if it was possible to do that successfully in place of latching....
@farmers_wife10, she seen me feed she said she doesn’t see a reason he doesn’t latch but she was going to try a few things with me at my appointment but I’ll definitely ask about the lip and tongue tie
