Can I get some opinions on the name “Mae’onna” for a little girl? It is unusual, yes. But I just heard it off Maury (of all shows lol) and I just want a few opinions on it.
@beccaaalynnn11 thanks for teaching me your a racist bigot. Funny how I was never once rude just factual. I'm Puerto Rican by the way, not that it should matter but maybe point out the idiocy in your statement a bit more. I was stating an honest opinion and somehow ended up getting insulted for having a discussion. It's why I rarely speak on these forums.
The Spanish taught in schools is formal Spain Spanish. When I’ve tried speaking Spanish in the kitchen at work to the cooks who speak Spanish from Mexico they have a hard time understanding some words. You DID use the term Mexican to insult her that’s not hard to see. Either way if someone was named that and ran into anyone who knew the meaning of what unagie said it would by made known how close their name resembles that.
Arguing variations in the Spanish language doesn’t negate the fact that meona is a word, and one with a definition one probably wouldn’t name a child after. Personally I think it is helpful that unagie let op know what the word meant when asked for opinions on the name. I’d want to know if a name I was looking into meant something in another language that I wasn’t aware of. The version of Spanish you speak really doesn’t matter here, it doesn’t change that it is in fact a word.
I insulted you because you insulted me. You can pretty it up now but you stated you speak proper Spanish. Not a different type but PROPER. That's insulting. And please if your going to speak on my culture learn about it first.
@beccaaalynnn11 and I don’t appreciate you trying to insult my friend. Guess we all have shit we aren’t appreciative of today.
Spanish taught in the United States is castellano Spanish from Spain. Puerto Rican Spanish has words different then the Spanish Mexicans speak or El Salvadorian or Spaniard. Meona is still an actual word!!!
- This is the problem in the world. Quit being so defensive and using racism as a crutch. You’re putting words in my mouth and I don’t appreciate that. Puerto Rico is part of the United States, therefore you would learn the form of Spanish I’m trying to understand here. You didn’t understand my statement. But it’s okay. You should speak out more. Your opinion matters just as much as any of ours.
@beccaaalynnn11 nah, you just tried to use “Mexican” to insult her Spanish because you feel the Spanish you speak in Argentina is superior. Nice try tho.
@beccaaalynnn11, why did you put Mexicans in quotations?
Wtf is with this app and racist remarks 😐
As far as the name, I’m not a fan. It just seems like one of those try hard names, doing too much to be different.
@beccaaalynnn11, Mae’onna is just a name I heard and kinda like. Like I said I don’t think I would name my child it tho. But yes my middle name is Mae.
@csavvy, wasn’t planning on naming my child it just wanted opinions on the name.

@beccaaalynnn11, idk if @unagie is Mexican or not, but why does Mexicans have quotes around it?
Please don’t name your child after a name you heard on the Maury show.
Think of their future job applications 😬😬😬😬
@beccaaalynnn11 Mona can also be used and has been for monkey. If you want to be super correct for female monkey you can say mono hembra. That still doesn't change the fact that meona means what I stated.
- @unagie, Girl that’s mona, but that’s what I thought of too.. being drunk 🤦🏻♀️😅
Is Mae your middle name? Named after mommy?
I actually thought about it 4 my baby's middle name at one time after my mom. Her middle name was Mae
It reminds me of the Spanish word meona. Someone who pees on themselves....like a bed wetter
@crai, it is pronounced how it’s spelled “Mae” “Onna”. I totally agree with you on that and that’s why I don’t believe I would name my child it bc it is quite unusual and some people can be cruel.
@crai, I’m not sure I would name my child it. But there’s something about the name when said I like it. We all like different types of names.
