So I'm curious.... do you feel the needle going in your back and spine when getting a epidural?

You should only feel a coldness they will numb you so yes you will feel a burning sensation for a few secs but then just coldness if they are doing it right. I allways felt a sharp pain in my hips when they do it but ive had 3 babys and i have twisted hip syndrome and lower back scoliosis so i doubt you will feel that dont be afraid to express any pain they will numb you more if needed.

If the doctor is doing it right, you should just feel a coldness.

I've had 3 and each time they numbed me first and I thought that shot hurt worse than the epidural. With one of them she warned me that when she put the medicine in I would have a strong ache feeling and boy I did. It hurt but not worse than the contractions.

You aren't supposed to feel it because they do it during a contraction.

They would give you something to numb your back first before they after that they will give you the epidural just a little heating sensation.

I didn’t feel pain or pressure. Contractions hurt way worse than the needle. If you know you want the epidural make sure you don’t wait to long to get to the hospital. I was at an 8 by the time the doctor made it to give me mine and they almost wouldn’t give it to me. (I also tend to go into labour in the middle of the night and they have to call the doctor to come after being admitted to the hospital)

I had no pain but the pressure was terrible. Kinda like getting your teeth drilled....it's numb but you still feel pressure. Plus I was freaked out thinking about it. But, I don't want to think how much pain I would've been in without it.

@dessiboo, yes when they put it in my back I didn’t feel a thing just coldness. Kinda hard to explain. Your gunna want the epidural and it’s not bad like everyone “says” 🙄 tbh I jumped at first cause I wasn’t expecting it and I was hold a pillow. I asked to hold my babies father and everything went smoothly!

Just depends on your pain tolerance. I almost made it to 10 cm but caved in at 7.

The epidural isn’t that bad. For me, it was pointless because it wore off anyway but it did help for a few hours and it was amazing. Instant relief.

@mommaofjais Okay so they numb you up before they put the needle in ? I'm really nervous about getting it but everyone tells me I'm going to want it when the time comes lol

I felt the numbing needle a little bit then just pressure from the actual epidural. It wasn’t bad. You just have to relax and stay very still.
