What is the harmony blood test and where do you get that test done?
@angelfoodcake, def makes sense! If I were to have a third I think I will pass on the NT scan
Yep, more appointments, more to bill - more testing more to bill, and I'm pretty sure the amino is pricey and it's considered invasive, maybe even surgical, hence more money @happymommyxo
@angelfoodcake, it’s funny you said that about the money motivated because my husband actually said that about this doctor pushing for the cvs and amino, I actually called my ultrasound doc I had with my first and I’m seeing them for my 16wk scan, I feel more comfortable
@happymommyxo yeah these days we have too much available information, seriously. And everything is money motivated.
@sassychef135, that’s great they gave you options and offered it
@angelfoodcake, yeah why do the doctors scare us! Think of our parents they just moved along with the pregnancy none of these scares
@angelfoodcake, yes it’s so stressful I didn’t even realize I could opt out of the NT scan
@yamip91, I can totally relate to your feelings! Thanks for sharing your story with me! I switched ultrasound companies so I could have the same one I had with my first and I scheduled a 16 week scan for June 7th, I also just spoke to my obgyn
Also, if they do the test and find that you’re high risk, it is an option to then have your husband tested also.
I had mine done at dr office the same day they did all my other blood work for HIV, etc. testing.
My dr told me it was an option to see if you’re low-high risk for certain abnormalities and could also find out gender. They typically strongly suggest once women are 35 and up or have had high risk factors prior to. I’m only 31, but she likes to inform me and give me all options available
@angelfoodcake, I’ve had 2 children in the past 3 years and pregnant again. 2 different docs in different regions. Both told me no when I asked. I guess it depends on the doc. But what I explained earlier is what both told me as well as my insurance said. They can order it I guess but coverage is not guaranteed.🤷🏻♀️
I'm diabetic so high risk, and my NT is scheduled for May 21. I honestly may refuse it cause it does cause a lot of stress and either way I would test further or abort, so what's the point.
@happymommyxo Last pregnancy, harmony results were good, but NT scan came back positive for 2 of the 3 markers. Neck and heart. Needless to say baby was fine. But it was nerve wracking. Dr also suggest amino.
@yamip91 wow so sorry about your experience.
@cams I believe most insurances are offering it to all now. Well at least that's what it seems to be.
@happymommyxo
I opted out of the amniocentesis.
The risk of a miscarriage are even higher than baby having issues.
@happymommyxo
I am so sorry to hear that!
Once they tell you there could be something wrong with baby...the joy completely goes away. It didnt matter how many doctors I saw or how many times they reassured me my baby was ok.
They told me my baby could have downs syndrome and that was in the back of my head until delivery, I was scared, I cried all the time. I was always thinking what if the bloodwork is right and the ultrasound was read wrong? What if my baby does have it? Why would they put me through all of this!?
That pregnancy was not enjoyable at all, my family telling to get rid of the baby before it was too late didnt help either.
But I knew I loved my daughter and that I was going to love her no matter what!!
If I had known I could have opt out of that test I would have! And I will opt out in the future (if I ever have more kids) because I do not need or want the stress.
@cams I believe most insurances are offering it to all now. Well at least that's what it seems to be.
@cams, yeah I’m concerned, plus I don’t feel it’s too high over, the baby wasn’t the direction the tech and doctor wanted it to be either. I’m not doing the CVS, I told them I’ll think about the amino but I don’t think I’m doing that either
@yamip91, that’s strange. Most OB’s don’t order the test all willy nilly like that. I’m sorry you were put undue stress for nothing.
@yamip91, I’m so happy that everything turned out well for you but what a scare! I’m sorry you went through that
@yamip91, thanks for the info! I did my NT scan yesterday and they said my baby’s neck thickness is measuring 3.6/3.8 and anything over 3.0 raises concern, the doctor really scared us and told us there was no point in taking the blood test that would be for low risk that we should do the cvs or amino but those scare me and I don’t want to risk it! I’m 13 weeks, the baby’s heart beat is 163 and the tech said looked good, I was upset all day yesterday. I wish I didn’t even do the NT scan!!!! I’m going to worry my whole pregnancy now
@cams
I had no idea this test was for woman over 35?
I was 24 when I had it done with my 2nd pregnancy. I wasnt high risk (well maybe I was, due to my weight) my doctor just ordered it and I got the bloodwork done. And let me tell you, worst mistake ever! The freaking test came back POSITIVE for downs syndrome, I had way to many ultrasounds! 1 soft marker was found but doctor explained how some babies without downs syndrome have the same heart problem in the womb, so I was told she didnt have it, I was scared my entire pregnancy, people telling me abort....it honestly took the joy away.
My baby did not have downs syndrome.
I do not want more kids, but if I ever do, I am opting out of that test
Your doc has to order it and most of the time will only do so if you’re high risk or over 35. If you don’t meet that criteria you could be stuck with a bill in the thousands. And even if you do meet the requirements some insurances don’t cover the entire cost. It’s best to call and speak to them first if your doc has ordered it. Just to be safe.
I got it done at doctor's office. Tests for gender and chromosome abnormalities.
It is bloodwork to look at the baby DNA. They can also find out the gender.
Your obgyn is the one to tell you when and where to get it done.
AF due 29th, anyone else?
Hi all AF is due 29th Sept for me feels like forever away. Has anyone tested yet or when do you plan on testing x
TWW!!

Sometimes you know your body better than everyone else. Not every woman will produce high levels of hcg throughout pregnancy some it can take weeks some it can take months don’t trust a blood test don’t trust a urine test trust your heart and when you know it’s times it’s time this doctor was not a gynecologist so he did not give me a quantitative blood test to actually see what my hcg level is at I hope this helps some of you ladies who just feel like giving up and stop testing because of what ...

Thought there was a line ready to pop up on yesterday’s test 😑 today’s test determined THAT was a lie.
Today’s test ➡️ yesterday’s test.
@happymommyxo I'm high risk so literally get a ultrasound every single appointment. Which is also reassuring but worrisome
