Please keep my sweet Adam in your thoughts and prayers. A handful of times after nursing, when I sit him up to burp him he will become really stiff and hold his breath. Earlier it happened twice. Once when I sat him up to burp him and again afterwards after I put him in his car seat to pick ds1 from school. It’s never happened any other time besides after I feed him and burp him. This time I got scared and was pinching his cheeks because he was so zoned out. I’m trying not to cry because I’m nervous as hell it could be infantile seizures.

I called his pedi and they want me to come in as soon as possible. 😭 just please pray and keep positive thoughts on my beautiful baby because if something is going on with him, I will completely lose it!!

Thanks everyone! 😌 doctor said it sounds like Moro reflex but don’t hesitate to take him to the children’s hospital if it happens more frequently and if it’s clustered. She wants to keep an eye on him though so he has biweekly appointments starting next week to track his development.

I’m so sorry! Prayers for you all! My dd does something similar but my doctor wasn’t concerned but I still am. Are his eyes open? She only does it after feeding and usually only late night ones.

@emmy.0802, his eyes are open when he does it. Doesn’t happen all the time and I just brushed it off as him not trying to throw up his milk but the one in the car seat had me worried. And it doesn’t happen in clusters either.

Thank you everyone! ❤️

It’s very possible that it could be silent reflux. My daughter’s was terrifying. She would choke, stop breathing and stiffen up. Burping was also very painful for her. Positive thoughts being sent out for him

I looked into silent reflux late last night because it does happen when I sit him up to burp him. He has most of the symptoms. He’s now having troubles with latching 😓. Last night I fed him upright and kept him that way for another 30 minutes after nursing. Back to the doc today to see our options.

He’s gassy all the time.

Spits up more than he should

Hiccups almost every day

His body actions after feeding

And he’s starting to cough

For ones that have had these problems, what has the doc done to help in cases like this? I really don’t want him to be poked or anything invasive.

@messybunmom, my guy has severe silent reflux. Meds are the way to go. It’s worse than reflux because it burns going up and then again going back down. Don’t let them talk you into cereal in a bottle to weight the food down because that’s an old school remedy that has been proven to be a choking hazard and the risks of that and long term gut damage do not outweigh the benefits. My guy had to have a camera stuck up his nose to check on his vocal cords because the reflux was so bad it caused scaring. That’s extreme though. Sometimes they can do less invasive things. We’ve done swallow studies to ensure there’s no aspiration during reflux episodes thankfully there is none. We had to stay on top of his meds because they are very weight sensitive. We had a GI following because I believe specialists should treat special issues and not general peds. They’re not usually up to date on the best treatments

@laniejay, that’s what I’m nervous about, them pushing cereal. I breastfeed so I’m dreading it if she tells me to stop. I might cry over it lol. Of course I’m going to ask when we go back today but is it something they grow out of? Or is it something that’s going to last a long while? 😓

I feel terrible about this like I did something wrong that could be causing this. I stay away from acidic food and I’m cutting dairy.

Sounds scary and very painful!! I’m so sorry your little guy has to go through all of that. I know it had/has to hurt your heart seeing him struggle.

I agree that meds are the way to go. Our regular pediatrician started her on Zantac but even after several dose increases it was still causing her a great deal of pain. Our ENT thankfully switched her to Prilosec and it made a big difference but she still had some issues until about 10 months old. The meds won’t prevent the reflux from happening but it will make it less painful. Always upright for at least a half an hour after feeding and we had to raise one side of her crib a bit to prevent choking as much when she was on her back

@messybunmom, thanks. He’s 4 now and still has it, but it’s gotten better and we now are going to wean meds.

Do not let them push you to do what you are not comfortable with. I’m so glad that we had doctors who were very knowledgeable and cereal was never on the table. They never mentioned swapping out of breastmilk. I would have swapped doctors honestly.

@ltee, Prilosec is the only one that worked for my kiddo too. And oddly enough it was our ENT who discovered the reflux and started the meds first too.

Silent reflux is hard to get them to treat, they say if baby doesn’t spit and gains they’re fine. I call BS because I’ve seen down my child’s throat. Stand your ground mama.

@laniejay, yes our regular pediatrician hadn’t even heard of Prilosec ever being prescribed for a baby. She also wasn’t even convinced it was reflux for a while because my daughter wasn’t visually spitting up a great deal. But I’d seen it firsthand happening in her throat before.

I also want to add that raising the crib was a risk that we had to take because of the severity of the reflux and only until she was rolling. We used a platform under two of the crib’s legs.

My 2 month old started having seizures at 5 days old which got mistaken for reflux because she was holding her breathe they right away diagnosed it as reflux. Such a scary thing! She had to get flown out to a bigger & better hospital & now she is on medication for them.

@messybunmom I know! Her very first one I shook it off but then it just kept happening & they kept saying it was reflux. She was desating (I think that's how it's spelt) & finally another nurse came in to see her & she tells the other nurse that she looked like she was having seizures. . They then called the doctor & he did more blood, urine test & then a lumbar puncture. It was so scary!!
