Run a hot shower and let the steam fill up the bathroom. Sit with him in there for a few minutes just breathing in the steam. Also try a humidifier.

I remember having it as a child. I remember my dad taking me outside at like 3am when I was having cough attacks through the night and the cool air really helped.

Also lots of fluids! It helps break mucus down.

We would steam my then stepson in the bathroom then open the door and it would shock his lungs and helped
