Does everyone prewash baby clothes? The new ones?

It all depends if I feel like doing laundry or not to be honest. I will wash what I can before baby gets here. I dont remember always prewashing my other 3 boys clothes. As they get older they wear it off the rack like I do. Im more concerned about the air we breathe and the food we eat more than clothes...if people only knew. All we can do is hope for the best☺

Yes. I haven’t washed the few newborn items I bought new yet just in case they’re too small so I can exchange them, but I’ve washed all of my previous son’s clothes I kept and all the blankets, baby towels, wash cloths and all that.

Always! I worked receiving for a retail store and the shape some of the clothes came in was pretty gross. I don't know how many times I opened a box of clothes and it smelled like cigarette smoke, chemicals, or mold. I've opened boxes before where all the clothes were wet (no clue what they was wet from, always hoped it was from rain). We just hung them in the back till they dried then put them out on the floor. The amount of times I helped clean out dressing rooms where clothes were tried on, thrown on the floor, and even found clothes that people peed on amazed me.

@selena_vargas119334, that doesn’t make any sense at all. If something I do lessons the chance for an adverse reaction for my child why wouldn’t I do it?? Same reason why we put them in car seats, because it lessons the chance of a serious injury or death.

We are their advocates, they can’t speak for themselves so why would you not take every “preventive measure” necessary to keep them safe?

@modom16, if my daughter starts getting a rash, I will take appropriate measures. Everything is a risk when it comes to a newborn baby. Taking preventive measures ISN’T going to guarantee anything from happening. That’s like me telling you not to drive at 430 pm cause traffics bad and who would want to take the risk of getting into a wreck?! No parenting style is better than another. I can understand and see why women do want to wash their babies clothes. I personally just am not.

Yes! I used to work for a clothing store in HS. Products would sit in the back storage room and I even found rat droppings on new towels. Not to mention people touching them after not washing their hands, chemicals, etc. better safe than sorry! Also it smells better!

@modom16, it was a joke about the immune system. And no thanks. Do yourself a favor and mind your business (:

@selena_vargas119334, how does putting chemicals all over your baby build their immune system???

You’re going to have an infant soon whose skin will be extremely delicate, do that skin a favor and wash the baby’s clothes!

Nope. None of my sisters have either. I considered it but I figured if I’ll wear a shirt before washing it, my baby will be okay if she wear her onesies without me washing them too. Building that immune system early, lol 🤷🏽‍♀️

Hand me downs yes though.

I have washed anything and everything that is going to come in contact with baby. Just don’t wash some stuff if you aren’t sure on the sizing or if you will use them. I have stuff hanging up in the closet with tags because I’m not sure if I will use it. Then I can always return the items. 😊👍🏻

Yes. There are lots of chemicals on clothing to keep them looking fresh and new while on display in the store, plus you don’t know who had had their nasty hands all over them.
