Did any of you have rules for people when being near your newborn? I really don’t want anyone to visit me after birth…

Just have to be clear about what you want for you and baby and if people can’t respect those wishes then they don’t deserve to be around baby.

I agree with everyone on the washing the hands, using hand sanitizer, no kissing the baby...but the one thing I make everyone do is lay a receiving blanket over them so baby’s skin, clothes, and baby’s blanket doesn’t touch them or their clothing. Especially because of different allergies it could create for baby. For example laundry detergents, fabric softeners, perfumes/colognes, cigarette smoke, and last but not least any pet dander or hair. All of my kids so far have bad allergies to tons of different things and this makes a huge difference! Just make sure if your using the same blanket for multiple people that nothing touches the side baby does and fold it with that side being on the inside when not in use.

Nobody is allowed to see us while we are in the hospital. The both of us will already be poked and prodded by nurses and I don't want to deal with family on top of it. Once home I will let everyone know when they can come over. They have to have clean clothes on (for the ones who smoke), wash their hands, and no kisses.

When I had my baby any one that came to visit had to wash their hands before holding the baby and no one was allowed to kiss the baby on the face

No one but my mom will see the baby until a few weeks old. I need time to heal and adjust to a new baby.

My rules were, they had to have the TDap shot before visiting my daughter. I also had a huge bottle of hand sanitizer near me. I’d prefer them wash their hands with soap and water but the sanitizer was a huge hint to WASH YOUR HANDS. I even had a little sign that I bought from Safety First to put on the baby’s car seat that said “Before you touch, please wash hands”. I also made it very clear that even I was afraid of kissing my baby’s hands because of germs.

with my first I didn’t have rules but I also didn’t expect so many visitors.. I was completely overwhelmed.. with my second, he went straight to nicu after I birthed him and you literally had to be with mom/dad to visit.. with this child, I honestly think I’m going to wait a day to announce that I have birth. lol I just don’t want to be overwhelmed

When He was like two weeks gold everyone had to wash in front of me and then use sanitizer. I still make them santize

@yesicondaa I had him during flu season so I said theres so many germs going around and his body doesn't know how to fight them yet so please no touching. They didn't complain

@hailcoop, yea! Im only thinking of having immediate family while in the hospital and no other visits until we are settled in at home. My biggest thing is kissing & washing hands😖

@mommytotheo, how did you kindly let them know not to touch him? Usually people do not tell others the “Donts” until after its been done. But i want to avoid it because knowing me id never let them near my son again and i don’t want to be rude.

They can visit and admire no touching mom or dad holds or baby in swing
