So my son had perfect attendance at school till today (mind you, school will be almost over 😒😒) because my husband decided it would be nice to take my son to the park and search for dinosaur eggs 🥚 because my son wants to see them hatch.

I don’t know if I should be upset or just laugh at the situation 😡😂?

He’s only in Pre-K.

@girlygirl1988, Yes you’re right! Yesterday he showed me the videos where they were searching for the eggs and he looked so happy and excited to be looking for them. It literally made my eyes watery! It was so sweet.

The best for your son is having some time with daddy that he can treasure. In pre-k none of it matters THAT much. No amount of finger painting is more valuable to your son’s well being than expanding his imagination and bonding with a good male role model that loves him. I would probably smother my husband with love if I heard he did that. Some men aren’t as good with kids . It’s not like he ripped him out of the SAT’s lol. Don’t sweat about it, it was a GOOD thing in the long run ❤️

I let my kids skip every once in a while

He probably learned more on the egg hunt than he would have in school for one day. Life experience is just as valuable as classroom education!

@lilysilly, totally understand!! Hey perfect attendance is amazing! Definitely really hard to do.

I think it is good for the mind to skip every so often. I think family time can be equally as important. Obviously not ALL the time. But I have no problem scheduling a family vacation during the school season.

@whoswhoo, thank you! 😊 I’m one of those parents but I also try not to be super strict I just want the best for my kids and I know one day will not hurt. I think I was a bit more upset at the fact that when I spoke to my husband at 7:39 am he told me he was running late to school and when I asked him why didn’t he take him to school he said “Oh I overslept” but of course that’s not true when he was already up 😒😆

@lilysilly, I just love how some parents still value school attendance. It’s great that your son got a fun adventure today. I also encourage parents to educate their children with trips, etc. It’s only an issue when students miss a lot of school just to stay home. It’s so hard catching them back up lol. 1 day isn’t gonna hurt, especially in prek 😊

@laniejay, you are right! I can’t be too upset because in reality I’m taking my son to Mexico for a whole week in September.

Oh lord I didn’t even think of that! It would be the start of school and he will be in kindergarten 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Our family believes life experience is as important as classroom experience. My oldest missed 3 days last week because we were exploring ancient ruins, immersing ourselves in another culture and learning their history. It happened to be on our family vacation. He showed pictures and discussed what he learned and got credit. I love that my school system supports our values.

Long winded response for- let them have their day.

@desert_chick, I was still a bit upset because when I spoke to him in the am he told he was runny late to school but I did laugh after I got off the phone with him though 😂 I just imagined my son searching for those eggs 🥚 lol

Also adding, I don’t think classroom actually take attendance until kindergarten. So I don’t think it would count against your son. I could be wrong on that though.

Honestly that’s sooo cute. Father son day. It’s only 1 day and he will remember it for a while. Plus it’s only pre k.

For the record i think school is very important but i don’t think 1 day will hurt anything.

I would laugh, sounds like it’s just the one day and they had a fun bonding day. If it became a habit I would get mad.

If it was a one time thing and since it’s pre-k I’d probably laugh because it’s silly.

But if it was regular thing then I’d be upset

Transgender children So I just learned that in my kids school district (my kids aren't in school yet my oldest will be starting kindergarten next September) there are twin boys who identify as girls. They are 5 years old. What's your opinions on this matter given they are 5!!! I don't believe that at that age they really understand the whole thing. So the entire school had to take a course on how to handle transgender children. For example they can't say girls go this or boys do that. What are your thoughts on the matter? Do u think the parents are behind this? Idk because I haven't met the parents or children. I just think at 5 it's very young for children to really understand. What do u ladies think?

@itsamemario, you deleted your post before I could hit send but this is my comment: I don’t know if this answers your question but this is my answer. My son is 7 and he knows race and color. Why? Because he himself comes from a family that is multi racial and because he has already experienced racism. I also believe as his mother it’s my job to teach him color and the cold hard truth about society. He knows what’s going on in this world. I’d be hurting him if I allowed him to blindly walk outside without this information. Children of color are being targeted and killed too. It’s not just adults. I let my son know we treat everyone equally and with respect. I let him know that we love everyone for their differences. In every aspect. Color, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual preference we love everyone.

Just looking for some input ladies...do you think grade 3 students should be suspended for violence in school? Principal at our sons private school let us know today that another student “jabbed” our son with a pencil in the back today.....wound care was provided (my husbands headed to get him and take him to our family doctor for tetanus shot on their advisement) and I’m crushed for my little guy! I can’t help but feel this other boy should be suspended 😫 Am I wrong?
