Anyone that’s had Makena shots, I’ve been torn on if I should do them or not. Has anyone else’s ob suggested them and you chose not to go through with them?
@brose0602, i did the shots and cervical checks as well. Are you seeing and MFM? I’d definitely request the cerclage.
@laniejay, I kinda want to ask for one as well just to be on the safe side. I’m only 10 weeks today and will get shots at 16 weeks then it goes to ultrasounds every two weeks to check cervix. So I was curious to see if I should vouch for it earlier then that
@brose0602, that was my MFMs plan prior to me getting pregnant. Because he was as micro as it gets we weren’t taking any chances. I haven’t even been diagnosed with an incompetent cervix, we just weren’t going to risk it. The earlier the cerclage, the higher the success rate. They won’t do them before 13 weeks, mine was placed at 13+2. If you wait until there’s a problem, a cerclage may not be an option or may not be successful for long. At least that is how my MFM explained things. I am sure they have different view points, but it worked for me.
@laniejay, If you don’t mind me asking why did you receive the cerclage? I had a 23 weeker in February, I’ll start the shots in a few weeks and then they will check my cervix every two weeks I’m curious cause I may have to do the same
@mrs.a, I had no side effects at all. Just a little itchiness where the injection site was sometimes like PP said. But my nurses were really good about alternating sides.
@mrs.a, I had injection site itchiness, that was it. No affect to the baby.
@sammymclaughlin77, @laniejay, I obviously want what’s best for my baby. I’m just scared because of what some people have said about them. Are there any weird side effects you guys have had to them? Or do they affect the baby in any way?
I had a 23 weeker, the shots and a cerclage got me to 37.6 weeks with my next pregnancy. The shots are supposed to get you 4-6 weeks longer than your last pregnancy. 4-6 weeks is HUGE for development. Even if they only got you a week or few days... that can mean big things. A day of development on the inside takes a week on the outside. Why wouldn’t you?!?
@mrs.a, they’ve helped more women that I know then haven’t. Every extra week in the womb is a huge for the baby. I’m not saying you need to get it. I only get it because if I can help get my baby to another week in the womb, I’m going to try. Ultimately the choice is yours and how you feel about it.
@sammymclaughlin77, yes, I know that what they’re meant to do but the percentage of them actually helping is so small.
With my first I went into labor at 30 & 33 weeks before my water finally broke at 35 weeks. Which is why I opted for the shots. I didn’t go into pre term labor at all with my daughter and she was born at 37+1 and healthy (: I’ll get them again to prevent a premie and pre term labor
@mrs.a, these shots are to prevent pre term labor to begin with. Not to stop them once they start. You get them from 16-36 weeks
@sammymclaughlin77, yes, my son was born early.
I have done a lot of research on them and from what I’ve read if someone is to go into preterm labor the shots don’t stop it. So, it makes me wonder what’s the point? I’m so lost and really don’t know what to do.
I have also had them with my last pregnancy.
I get them. I have 2 more and I’m done after that.
I had em with my last and will with this one. Is there a reason your ob suggests it? Such as pre term labor with your last & or pre term delivery?
I’ve had them with my last 2 pregnancies and will with this one as well.
Gifts for nurses?
Anyone planning to bring gifts for your nurses during/after delivery? If so, what are you giving them?

Dad's FB Video!!
Did anyone see that video a dad posted on his daughters FB page? He saw a post she made where she bashed her parents and cursed them, called them lazy and told them they should pay her for stuff she did around the house... So he called her out on it and put the video on her page!! Sorry if I missed a post already about this already, but I just saw the video and IT WAS AWESOME!!! Hahahhaa!
Anyone use cloth diapers, or considering using them? I'd like to get some input in them
Does anyone have their SO name tattooed on them? Or your SO has your name tattooed on them?
