How do you react to someone commenting on your parenting in public?

How do you react to someone commenting on your parenting in public?

Yesterday my husband and I were shopping at Costco when a women approached my husband saying that screens were bad for little ones and we shouldn’t be letting our almost 4 year old daughter play with my phone. I was paying so I was out of earshot but she I guess tried to give him a pamphlet on why it’s bad and he just said no thanks and moved on.

It’s lucky he talked to her because I would have told her to mind her own business unless she was my kids pediatrician or parents. We had spent the morning at a soccer game and weeding the front yard so what business is it of hers that I allow MY child to play ABC mouse for a little bit while we get the shopping done. It just really pissed me off she felt the need to stick her nose where it doesn’t belong

Part of me used to be embarrassed because we didn’t do it the best way but at the end of the day we have a balance and it works for our family!

Before having my son I had all kinds of opinions to give lol then we had our own and I never shamed any mom for anything! I can’t stand people that need to say or even imply that their way is the best way just because it’s organic, fat fee, vegan, screen free, no sugar, blah blah blah

It’s not ok for strangers to give their Opinion on any parenting topics. If I saw anyone doing something I don’t so or would do different nothing would make me come and offer my 2 cents.

We were out to dinner one night. Dining outside on a busy road and my 3 year old screamed. Well this older lady gasped and looked over at my son. I took him away from the table and told him we don’t yell when we are out to eat because other people are trying to enjoy their meal. So he calmed down and a few minutes later I asked if he had to go to the bathroom and he yelled no really loud. She turned to him had her hand out and said now give me your toys. I have her the stink eye and took him to the bathroom. I thought it was extremely rude of her to do that. It was very loud where we were so him yelling wasn’t that big of a deal to me at least. I just ignored her though. I don’t pay any mind to people when we are out. Now if I wasn’t addressing his yelling then I’d expect someone to say something but I was already taking to him about it. It really bugged me but I didn’t let it bother me too bad. We just went about our meal and he was so well behaved after I gave him a good talking to. Regardless other people have no say in what I allow or don’t allow my kids to do!!

I'm not a nice person and don't hold anything bad. I will tell you to shove your opinion where the sun don't shine and mind your own business.

I had my niece and nephew at Walmart and told them to grab the nearby empty cart while I paid for the groceries. The self check cashier told them to get off the cart, it will tip. I told her they are fine and not to tell my kids what to do. I clearly have my weight on the cart and I am watching them. She started arguing with me "oh i saw 2 kids tip a cart over yesterday, it is so dangerous to have them hang on it." Bytch, I used to work here. The carts are not going to tip with a 50lb kid on one side and a 200lb woman on the other. Also, they're not hanging on it! They're holding on it and moving it around like kids do. Mind your own dang business and stop trying to parent other people's kids. I went straight to management. Not like they'll do anything about it.

If she had a pamphlet, chances are she goes Around looking for kids using tablets. While I agree that screen time can become an issue, I’d just say “thank for your concern” and be about my own business.

I'd probably say "oh I didn't know that" and move on. No point in wasting my energy arguing and it ruining my trip out.

I often have to tell other moms not to comment about another mom's parenting. One of my mom friends constantly wants to intervene in situations that don't concern her. I often am telling her to that "that's her child". This response is often responded with "but why can't I....." I just repeat " it's her child"...." But aren't we suppose to ....." ..... "No, it's her child. Let her parent. "

I am all for parents saying good job to each other. But there is a time and place. And sometimes even a " good job". Doesn't need to be done or can be misinterpreted.

So, what would I do, I'd say i didn't know, take her pamphlets and move on. Let her think she did the right thing. And if I have the pamplete it's one less for her to give to a new parent or a parent who is having a bad day. Getting confrontational doesn't help and would just ruin my day.

Demoralizing is a good way to explain how I felt. I try so hard to be a good mom and to have someone randomly tell us we are doing a bad job is just not cool. If it was a safety issue I would take it better but the amount of screen time a kid gets is a parenting choice in my opinion.

Regardless of screen time being a “real” issue. It’s no ones business to tell you how to raise you’re child ( unless you are obviously abusing them). It’s nobody’s place to approach someone about this..

It can be so demoralizing to have random people criticizing and judging. You know you are doing the best you can, so just try to ignore and not let it bring you down!

I would cry😭 jk....someone did this to me once. Not because my kids were on the phone, different reason. I felt so humiliated, like you don’t know my struggle lady. I was really upset, but at the end of the day like you said yourself she doesn’t know your life. I would just smile and walk away, while rolling my eyes! 🙄

I probably would have taken the pamphlet and said thank you. I mean, it is an actual issue. Children shouldn’t be on screens.

Yes, she does not know your life. Or how much your kids are actually on the phone/tablet/computer/tv. It’s nice to just be educated.

Take it with a grain of salt. I would only be rude if she was publicly shaming me for doing what I had to do to stay sane on a shopping trip. In the end, you know how you parent. That’s all that matters

I hate my generation sometimes ?

I hate my generation sometimes ? Today was my nieces baby shower, which went great. She got so much which amazing since she's been working 2 jobs trying to save up for the unpaid leave she'll have to take from work. Anyways I was talking to one of the ladies there since my son and her daughter were playing together. I asked her what her daughters name was, she said it was Layla. I told her that's a really pretty name and asked her if she was a Clapton fan and if she was named after the song. This girl had no idea who Eric Clapton is. ? ♀ One of the most iconic songs, and she had no idea. I hate my generation. ?

is it wrong to be frustrated that my daughter acts like she can't do certain things with out my help. she plays dumb a lot and I wish I could be like no girl show what you know. she acts like she can't trace or match shapes so shes ask for "mommy finger" to help her so I barely hold her hand and she magically can do it but if I dont hold her hand she just scribbles and acts like she doesnt know the pic is how she traces when I'm "helping her" otherwise it'll just be scribbles all over the page

My world stopped I was changing the laundry over and my husband went to use the restroom. Our 20 month was in the room with our 10 year old and climbed up on the bed and fell, face first, landing on her head. Our bed is three feet off the ground and our son said she was standing up, so roughly a five foot fall. I ran into the room and she was unresponsive. She didn't take her first breath for 45 seconds. Her eyes were rolled in the back of her head and her entire body was limp. I lost it. I was screaming for my husband to call 911 and was running around looking for my phone. I was screaming to God to protect my baby who laid lifeless in my arms, aside from shallow breaths. I called 911 and was panicking for them to send someone ASAP. My first time ever needing an ambulance and we moved from having a fire station about a football field away to the boonies where we have one neighbor. I didn't know how long it would take for them to get here.

Dad's FB Video!! Did anyone see that video a dad posted on his daughters FB page? He saw a post she made where she bashed her parents and cursed them, called them lazy and told them they should pay her for stuff she did around the house... So he called her out on it and put the video on her page!! Sorry if I missed a post already about this already, but I just saw the video and IT WAS AWESOME!!! Hahahhaa!
