Forgive me if this offends anyone but is it just me or does it seem like doctors are so quick to jump to c-sections these days? Even my midwife at 30 weeks said if my baby doesn’t turn (he’s transverse) I’ll have to have a c-section. Which of course put so many thoughts in my mind that I didn’t necessarily need because I still have ten weeks. I just don’t get it I guess. Technically we can go to 42 weeks.
I will say it does depend too on how big baby is as there is definitely less room if baby is bigger. For transverse I know that can be different as opposed to breech or flipped. This is probably why she's saying at a certain point. Usually midwives are very pro-natural and very anti-intervention if at all possible. Remember too second babies and so forth don't drop as soon as first babies. That is in every medical pregnancy book as well. I wish you the best! 😊
That's dumb most babies turn in the last month anyways. No need to worry about it now!!
@mom211n11, oh wow I didn’t even know about that for the time and no space left to move. Thanks for the information!
They can charge more for a c and schedule it when they want to...not right but thays what they do.
@dpushknockx yeah me too but it helped me realize we have more control than we think! I really believe your midwife should have said it as a "wait and see" kind of thing but I do get that you can't wait til 42 weeks either if the baby is transverse. He would have no room to turn after 36-38 weeks. My daughter, they tried to turn her while I was in labor as she completely flipped to her back! She was distraught from the pitocin. There are defenitly things your midwife can do to get baby in the right position before there is limited room though. I really am hoping for the best girl!
I really doubt it now. Seems doctors are recommending c section to go about their day
Yeah I don’t mean to addendum either but I really hate the thought of a c section. It used to be a last resort to save the child’s life and the mother wouldn’t always make it. And when I got pregnant I read an article in a pamphlet I got from the doctors that c section is the #1 asked for and chosen by most women. And I’m over here like what!? It’s nuts.
@mom211n11, wow!!! That is just heartbreaking. I’m so sorry you had to go through that
@dpushknockx yes girl! You have control more than you think! I really educated myself after my first due to my terrible experience! I feel like the doctor was "inconvenienced" due to how long it was taking! He pushed the midwives out of the way and upped my pitocin and broke my waters at the same time! I cannot tell you I would do natural labor any day than deal with pitocin again! I had an epidural from the unnatural contractions and both me and baby ended up with a fever! I nearly hemorrhaged from the doctor trying to yank out my placenta! Retained placenta pieces and emergency D&C at 9 weeks post partum.
Yes of course! Hope he turns though. Mine turned kinda late around 30w and I didn't feel it. Just assumed because movements felt different.
@kambam, yes, which I definitely understand!! That’s why I’m saying like if it came down to it and he just didn’t turn by a certain point (in my mind after due date - not something scheduled before) then of course I’d do a c-section.
It does look so painful and I think its controversial in terms of people thinking differently about manual manipulation. Having a baby out of position could pose some risks though, I think that's why they would elect to do csection before anything bad happens.
@mississippi.mama, I know that I can refuse but when I said, “well can I not just go to 42 weeks before a c-section” all of the sudden that wasn’t an option.
You can refuse anything you want. That's what a birth plan is for. I had a CNM and she told me if my son hadn't flipped by 36 weeks that we would schedule a c-section.
@kambam, the only videos I’ve watch are on spinning babies and it looks crazy intense! I’ve had a friend have it done and she said it was painful. I just get worried about the cord being around his neck or something, ya know? I rather him just turn on his own.
@redheadedmonster, I’m glad you’re baby was okay! That’s what I’m talking about - if there is a true emergency then by all means let it happen but I’m pretty sure I can go to 42 weeks naturally and wait for him to turn.. after all they come when they’re ready, right?! But for women who choose to have c-sections that’s totally okay and their choice! It’s just the doctors so quick to be like you need one - isn’t okay.
My first was vaginal, second emergency csection, third was VBAC.
They tried talking me into another section. The only reason I had a csection is cuz my son was born at 32wks and his heart rate was dropping crazy low. NOT because my body couldn’t handle birth.
They wanna walk in, cut, grab baby, and go about their day. It’s fucking pathetic. And so many women are afraid to stand up for themselves.
Have you watched any natural breech births? Or transverse baby videos out of curiosity? I wanted to be prepared just in case so I found them interesting and inspiring
@mom211n11, I’m glad you stuck to your guns though! I will probably be pretty “stubborn” unless it came down to an emergency.
@squishymommy1, even though hospital births was it vaginally or c-section?
I completely agree! I know hands down they would have done a c-section had I not stuck with my CNM. I was approaching 36 hrs after my water broke with inconsistent contractions. Turns out I had a high leak and my CNM said I either needed to go to the hospital then or come in and go through everything naturally. I got my water birth with no pain meds! Based on my tough secondary bag (the high leak was my forebag) they would have done an emergency c-section. My first daughter the doctor told me if I didn't push her out in 10 minutes I was getting a c-section! I tore like crazy and she was facial presentation because she turned due to not handling the pitocin they gave me! Both girls were the same weight as well. Honestly I would love to do a birthing center again but cannot due to my factor V Leiden and being on Lovenox now 😞
@kambam, thank you! I kind of feel like he has. He doesn’t kick on the sides anymore and I feel either his head or bum in the middle. So he’s either breech or head down, lol. She did mention trying to “spin” him before due date as well. Just praying God turns him!
Yeah it’s a bummer. I had 3 hospital births and then 3 homebirths and ill never go back.
Yes and most people don't question anything so they get away with it. I do hope your baby turns though!
@mom211n11, thank you!
