I am breastfeeding my baby but when we came home he just wants to stay on me for 3 hrs or longer.. Does anyone know why that is?? I've been giving him a little formula when he does that and he will be satisfied and go to sleep.

@mmmcano they do looked squished like flat... Does that mean he could have it???
My boyfriend got me a manual pump soo I can still give baby my breastmilk while my nipples heal.. With the pump it hurt but not as bad when he would latch on.
@andgee24 keep in mind a lot of them sometimes don't know how to spot them or if they do they like to down play it and say it's no big deal 🙄. I mean if it's causing pain it's obviously a big deal lol. I hear that so much that their doctor said they have one but they won't correct it until weight loss or something significant happens instead of just fixing and preventing it in the first place. Or that their doctor completely missed it entirely.
You can check yourself though it's simple.
Does your nipple happen to be kinda squished flat when he let's off. Like if you see it immediately after he unlatches. That could be a sign as well if it's significantly squished.
@mmmcano when I was at the hospital a lactation consultant came and help me latch him on and they said he latches on good. From the very first moment he latched it was really painful. He has an appointment Wednesday and talk to his pediatrician. Thank you
@andgee24 is his latch correct? Open wide enough or enough nippleand areola in his mouth? It's possible he has a tongue/lip tie. Which can affect the way he latches. Time being nipple shields can be used but they really aren't good for long term as they are frankly annoying but they can help. Your hospital or doctors office should have an lactation consultant that you can use for a while. I highly suggest getting ahold of one. Rub some breast milk on them and let them air dry helps too.
@mmmcano I stopped also because when he latched on to me yesterday I cried and screamed with pain.. My nipples hurt so bad when he's latched on. Do you know what I could do to help that?? They are also like a dark brown color like it's bruised and there's parts were it looks like they are cracked. I've put nipple cream before and after he would feed.
Stop giving formula. That's actually hurting your supply. The more formula you give the less you'll make. It's just a bad cycle. Keep switching sides and latching. He's just establishing your supply.
he could be suckling on you for comfort, it's normal!
He’s establishing your supply. That sounds normal to me. It’s his way or telling your body to make more. Also he may not be nursing for hunger.
