How Can I Protect the Children I Raised as My Own?
I feel so guilty. That’s my son at 2 months old and his sister and brother. I raised them for 5 and a half years. I went through hell with their father and now my son and I are in hiding and I’m going to court because of what he’s done to my son and I. We weren’t married and I don’t have legal rights to his brother and sister. When their father goes to prison for 20 years they have to go back with their mother who can’t take care of them to begin with. Her and I have an agreement that when he’s been sentenced we will have all the children remain in contact because they need a relationship. But this kills me. Those were my babies too. They’re mom threw them away she didn’t care about them. I was the one taking them to therapy, surgeries, parent teacher conferences, homework. I cooked and cleaned, bathed them. They’re terrified of their father but because of who he is and who he knows they can’t get help. I almost feel like I should have married him and legally adopted them so I can take them. I’m so lost.

I wish I could. My petition to the courts wouldn’t even be approved. He’s got judges, prosecutors, lawyers, detectives, police officers all in the family. That’s part of the reason he’s not being charged with everything and why he still has custody of his other children. 3 counts of 1st degree assault with a deadly weapon, 3 counts of 1st degree child endangerment and neglect, reckless driving, DUI, kidnapping, custodial interference, drug paraphernalia, possession with the intent to sell, and possession of a firearm. Those are all the real charges. Do you know what these crooked judges and prosecutors are charging him with? 3 counts of 2nd degree domestic violence. Which each carry a sentence of no less than 2 years but no more than 7. Supposedly he’s working a plea deal and can possibly serve only 85% of 4 years. I’m hoping he gets the full 20 but that’s highly unlikely. These children have express their fears to social workers MANY times. They EVEN told them where exactly in the house their father keeps the guns and money and drugs and absolutely nothing was done. They contacted me and their mother and asked us if we have legitimate fear for their safety and I begged them to either give them to their mom or at least let me take them and they said no. They don’t have enough evidence to prove that a removal would be beneficial for the kids. But yet sent me a letter stating the claims the children have made are substantiated and true. I don’t know what else to do.
You can probably foster then at the very least. Courts want to keep children where they are more comfortable. Who better than the person who helped raise em
You have no idea who their father/ family is. Very powerful family in Kansas City Missouri. I don’t stand a chance.
One time I thought I got a fair judge. She had him taken into custody immediately but didn’t now his background very well. She order him to have a cash only no surety $12,000 bond. I thought that would keep him locked up long enough for my son and I to move and maybe the state would move in and take the kids but when they took him into custody they never hand cuffed him, let him keep his phone and let him make a call to someone right outside of the court room. Next thing I know I got people telling me he rode in the damn front seat in the police car walked into the lobby of the jail and his cousin had the $12,000 cash and he paid it and walked right the hell back out. There’s a reason the Jackson county jail is being investigated by the FBI. This is no joke. It’s terrifying
