My boyfriend is Puerto Rican and he is always saying that I don’t get certain stuff because I’m white. Like I wouldn’t relate as much to black panther or I don’t know what discrimination is because I am white.
And we are reading this series of books and he says I don’t relate to it as much because I’ve only been in one relationship and haven’t had my heart broken or know what it feels like....
Like don’t tell me what I understand or can relate to. I hate that he always says that he struggles because of his race and he’s always discriminated, like people may not like you but you have never been attacked or anything for your race and even though I’m “white” I still understand what other races go though. And even though I haven’t been through tough breakups I can still relate to the books in other ways!!!!
Sorry I’m just ranting because he’s been saying that kind of stuff a lot of me lately and it’s making me irritated.

@alyssa_hoffmaster I'm telling you you need to get him to read up on the Barbary slave trade. In America what we did to African-Americans is exactly what happened to White people in Africa and Morocco. The only reason we don't hear about it is because it didn't happen in our country but it still happened to white people too. Think about the Irish as well they're white they were thrown into slavery by other white people. Over in Africa they were enslaved by other Africans. Egyptians were enslaved by other Egyptians. I could keep going with this but I think you at least get my point.

@alyssa_hoffmaster Exactly, not to mention that he's in America diversity is plentiful. If a white person were to go to China or Egypt or Italy Etc even he himself would be discriminated against because he is neither Chinese Egyptian or Italian. And you absolutely will get discriminated against. Just because no one has come up and said something to your face yet doesn't mean that someone walking by doesn't discriminate against you in some way.

Explain this to him. That you dont have to be in that exact situation or to feel some type of way about it. Like your not African American but you understand pur feelings towards society. You seem like an understanding person and He should be more respectful of that.
Discrimination goes beyond skin color. Discrimination is anything from telling someone you don't like them because they have red hair or because they have blue eyes, a man telling a woman he doesn't like her cuz she's a woman, a woman telling a man she doesn't like him because he's a man. Those are examples of discrimination white people can be discriminating against white people black people can discriminate against black people. Tell your boyfriend to read up on the Barbary slave trade. He sounds very ignorant to the fact that he doesn't know his facts. White people weren't the first to enslave African Americans the Arabs did. Also between the mid 1500s to the mid 1800s people in Africa they were going over to Europe and ripping women and children and some men from their families and their homes throwing them on a boat and taking them back to Africa and selling them as slaves. Just because you're white doesn't mean that you can't be or don't understand discrimination. Because just like the African Americans we were also enslaved.
