@shay2beautiful, yeah well when you’re used to it it’s the norm. You don’t know any different. But if they just suddenly put them in all the schools overnight kids will be alarmed.
Alarmed and Alive sounds better than vulnerable with a false sense of security. This has happened too much now so I think at this point students and parents will feel more comfortable with the idea.
I went to school in Washington DC and we had metal detectors as well. I honestly feel like that should be a requirement after those other school shootings. every school should have metal detectors police on site and security guards. You can never be too safe in this world today.
I’m in Kansas City Missouri. Just about all of our public schools in the city have them but not the charter schools. Which I find is odd. One year my ex’s son was in kindergarten and went to public school walking thru metal detectors and being searched and then got accepted in a charter school for 1st grade RIGHT down the street from the public school and absolutely nothing. No security checks. I found that odd. And we have a lot of reports of kids bringing guns to school here. I agree they at least need metal detectors.
@nerualauren with everything that's going on I doubt that kids will be alarmed by a safety precaution. I wasn't always in a school with metal detectors so it wasn't my normal either but I felt safe!

It’s crazy to think our kids have to grow up in a world that’s so dangerous. I used to ride my bike all over town until the street lights came on and were always at friends houses. Now my stepsons BM and I practically run a full background check on their friends parents before even considering letting them go over to hang out!

They don’t do that because it gives the vibe that the school is a dangerous place.
