For my son, I get down to his level, if he's misbehaving because he has attitude I give him a very, clear, decisive "No sir" no screaming, no yelling, he still knows I mean business. When he was about two he didn't understand time out, so I started the countdown technique, counting slowly to three (to give him time to calm down, if I could see that he was making a genuine effort to calm down, I would pause to allow him the extra time he needed) and giving him one spanking on his bottom if he was still misbehaving, and then repeated if he was still throwing a fit. He caught on pretty quickly and most of the time it never came down to a spanking, I could then try to talk with him to find out what the problem was, if your son is speech delayed like mine is sometimes that can be challenging. Now that my son's four, I use time out and the count down method, depending on the situation.
I don't know what your stance is on spanking, I think its effective if its explained to the child first "I'm going to count to three, if you're still misbehaving, mommy is going to give you a spanking." Then they have a choice and can act on it. That's just me tho.
If your having a difficult time keeping him in time out, be persistent, keep redirecting him back to time out if he gets up, you have to show him that you're the boss (so to speak) I know its a difficult process but you really have to be persistent. I hope this helps x
@leroydoom, yes and I can not leave my home ever it is a total nightmare and when we're at home he does absolutely everything he isn't suppose to do. He knows he's not suppose to and does only the wrong things, I want to pull my hair out!

I could never just ignore the behavior like some moms have suggested to me, just seemed to make it worse in my experience.
