Hi everybody!

The question is for those who passed IELTS📚

I am currently preparing for it. Do you know any places where I could improve my speaking skills? I mean English speaking clubs in Almaty. I could have found it surfing our Net but with your recommendations I will be grateful!

And how about resources? Could you recommend me a super-magic book with idioms/phrasal verbs you used for studying?

What were your strong and weak points?

Speaking and writing are my “pain in the ass” (as my American friend said)

Don’t you mind me writing in English? It’s a big necessity to pass this exam for me, my deadline is June’18. Now when I’m just taking a stroll, I imagine how an examiner is taking an interview and I’m answering her/his questions.

What was your overall band score?

Thanks in advance for your answers🌷

I had my ielts way too long ago (8 years ago, heh), but there might be a chance there are still in business: Yes! language school somewhere in Samal, specifically - Alister. He's a british guy married to kazakh, opened his language school, they used to hang out with other expats from british council including those examining speaking tests :)

As for free speaking clubs, think there should be something like American Corner, british council should also have such clubs. Good luck!

From your writing I see that you have very good writing skills and vocabulary. Don't bother yourself with idioms too much. Don't forget about graph/diagram description words, linking words and cohesion between sentences. Also try to make short outline before you start writing. You have enough time to prepare.

In fact, IELTS is all about technique and your mood on the day of examination 😉. So stay calm and positive. Good luck! 😉

Hope IELTS buddy will be useful for you. And you will score 9.0! 🤗

A useful speaking preparation for me was talking to myself in front of a mirror 😅

Also try to be concise (short and precise) when answering examiner's questions. Control your body language, have eye contact (but not constantly😁) and try to feel the mood of the examiner. He/she might intentionally create stressful situation for you by being rude or ignoring you. Just stay calm and try to be nice.

Hi! It's nice to see someone who knows English here)

I had my last IELTS examination in November 2014 when I was 4th year student at NU, my overall band score was 8.0.

Unfortunately, I don't know any super-magic books. But I know one good web-resource that I liked a lot: ieltsbuddy.com. It helped me to score 9.0 in listening, which in fact was my weak point. I guess it might contain useful tips for writing and speaking as well.
