My son is 14 months tomorrow and we can hardly get him to eat solid foods on his own. We want to wean him off formula by 18 months and have been trying to get him to snack on small finger foods and he mainly just plays with it or throws it off his tray. Sometimes he will eat it if we give it to him but most of the time he shakes his head no. Any ideas or tips on how to get him more interested in eating? He will eat yogurt bites and cherrios on his own but that's about it.
@starienite yes please thank you! I will keep you posted as well.
Good luck. Let me know how it goes. I’ll let you know if I find out anything interesting at my appointment tomorrow.
@starienite mine these past few weeks just started drinking 8oz a bottle so I get it. He used to only have 6oz bottles and maybe 7oz at night. Hopefully we can get the advice we need from the doctors. :)
Haha. He sounds just like my son. He doesn’t sleep either and needs to be fed through the night. But mine only drinks 4-6 oz bottles so it still feels like he drinks bottles all day. I had to keep a food journal every day for the last two weeks of everything he ate or drank and had to make a master list of all the things he will eat. My list has a lot of gerber on it. I have to turn it in tomorrow and see what the doctor says.
Just let her know your concerns and she should be able to help you from there.
@starienite I think he has about 3 8oz bottles a day so 24oz. I will try banana I just want him to start wanting to eat more solids rather than thin baby foods or formula. He also doesn't sleep through the night yet and wakes up twice for a bottle.
@starienite oh I didn't know about that we go to the doctors Thursday for his baby wellness check up I'll ask her about it.
Another thing you can do is talk to your doctor about it. There is such a thing as food therapy that helps get children to eat. I will be asking my doctor about it tomorrow.
How much formula does he drink a day? My son still drinks anywhere from 20-30oz a day. He should only be drinking about 16oz a day. Try cooking some apple and mix it with cinnamon start by almost mashing them and then work up to bigger pieces. My son doesn’t eat very much either but it is because he drinks too much formula have you tried bananas? I cut my sons in half pieces and he will pick them up and eat them or I will feed them to him with a fork.
@kaela3 thanks for the advice! I will try to feed him the stage 3 foods again for dinner and try the meals and hope for the best! I have a couple of friends that had their babies a week or two before me and they are really good eaters and have been eating well since 10-11 months but I know all babies are different. Fingers crossed I can get him interested in other foods! 😁
@aylenrose, yeah i understand , i weaned my son off formula at 1 and switched him to whole milk. He gets like 3 sippy cups full a day.. other than that he eats the rest of the time .. you can try the gerber meals too. I got them for my son and he liked them as well
@kaela3 I'll give it another shot! My son does that to the first time I gave him yogurt bites at 10 months he gaged and puked. Now he loves them. Its just tough because I know he can't have bottles and baby food forever and I feel like he's just not interested in eating.
@aylenrose, he’s just gotta get used to the texture of it.. my son still doesn’t like some foods because of the texture
@aylenrose, i would just keep trying ! My son used to gag when I’d put it in his mouth lol. But then he got the hang of it .
@kaela3 we tried those to but once he got some of the chunks he makes a face and spits it out and smears it all over his tray. 😥
@alana18 yes we give him the toddler transition one that you can give them from ages 1 to 3. We usually give it to him between his baby food meals.
@aylenrose, my son didn’t like food that was chunky at first either . He hated stage 3 baby food because it was chunky but after a few weeks of trying to give it to him he got used to it. So if you haven’t tried stage 3 then try that!
@kaela3 yes he eats the baby rice cereal, the baby yogurts and certain baby food. He likes the fruit ones best but we get him to eat the fruit and veggie mixes. When we try to get him to have like chopped up fruit or carrots or turkey he just plays with it.
Make your own breakfast!
At what age do you think a child should be making their own breakfast? I have a 10 year old and I think he is perfectly capable of making himself breakfast. It doesn't take rocket science to put some waffles into the toaster, or microwave some pancakes. My husband insists that he needs to have breakfast made for him because if we left it up to him he wouldn't eat enough and it would take him forever.
Don't y'all think it's stupid for a man to for get that his girlfriend make him some food and only he got do is come get it and he don't have nun to eat at his house and that he cheating ?
Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no,
his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me...
Hey ladies question so I’m messing with this guy and me and him been talking for a minute and we have been having sex and like some stuff is off like he don’t want me at his house and he’s 30 and like he comes round only at night time and like after we done having sex he hurry up and wash his self off like his face and mouth and penis with soap and when we kiss he want me to wipe my lipgloss off first
Does these sound like signs of him cheating and him having someone back at home ??????
One food you love most!
What's one food you can never get tired of eating.
Most stop formula and switch to milk at one year. That being said, try bananas, fruit cups, bread, baked chicken. Get off the baby food completely/cold turkey. Mixing solid food with baby food can just confuse the kid. Needs to be one or the other. He'll eat it when he is really hungry. It can take on average of 10 tries for each new food before he'll eat it. So just keep trying.
