So I've been breastfeeding my daughter for 18 months. The only way she goes to sleep is by feeding and wakes up every 3-4 hours. I decided to stop breastfeeding her and only do one breastfeed in the evening way before her bed time. I put plasters on and said mummy has an ouchy, which worked as she didn't ask for it as much as usual, night one she fell asleep and slept 6 hours then woke up crying, I just rocked her back to sleep wasn't to bad. The next night she woke up at around 11 cried a for a bit and then slept for 8 hours, 3rd day done 11 hours in a row , day 5 things changed she went crazy in the middle of the night wouldn't let me or partner comfort her or anything. I gave in and feed her. Today was the worst at bed time she cried and cried so bad and kept saying she's hungry pulling on my top, gave her food some of which she ate but not a lot. After hours of her screaming finally she's asleep now. Found it so hard to not feed her. I'm dreading when she wakes up during the night what she will be like.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I feel like such a shit mum not giving her what she wants 😪

@yasmin1081 that's good. Cold cabbage leaves on your breasts for a whole day. This will drain your milk and stop her from smelling it. I had the leaves on my breasts for 3 days and my milk supply went completely x

@firsttimemummy86 she's 18 months old so I don't think it's to bad if she doesn't get milk as she eats a lot of other diary products, she does take milk in a cup but only a few sips.

@mum2sky yes I may have to go cold turkey to. She woke up during the night but didn't cry for long at all and fell asleep again.

Must be hard, I bottle feed so I know that's different. I Guess you will have to stay strong or stop giving her in the day like mum2sky said, but then personally I think a child needs milk at this age.

I went cold turkey with my daughter. The thing is if you give it to her during the day she will play up for it during the night because she is accustomed to self soothing off of it. You just have to unfortunately let her cry it out. If you give in once she will expect it again because she understands more. I tried doing it only during the day and none at night and it didn't work for me I had to just stop altogether and I'm so glad I did she sleeps for 11 hours now without a wake up whereas before it was every 3 hours. It's completely to you how you do it but I found cold turkey was the best for me x

@firsttimemummy86 thanks for replying.. she's always been exclusively breastfeed, I have tried to give a bottle but she won't take it at all. but my problem isn't the breastfeeding it's her sleep and waking up at night cos of comfort feeding I just want her to get out of falling asleep on boob and waking up night wanting feeding. I know as long as I stay strong and don't give in she will be able to sleep through the night, as she did a few days ago

@winterbaby95 the plasters defo helped me to some extent, maybe try them and explain why she can't feed.

Waking to feed? My dd is a week old and I was told by her doctor to wake her every 2 hours during the day and 3-4 hours at night to feed her. For the first 3 days I did that and when I would wake her fit a night feeding she was fussy and usually wouldn't go back to sleep and would want to nurse constantly until about 9 am. I tried not waking her last night and she slept beautifully! She woke up around 6 hours in and ate then slept another hour or so and ate again. Is it ok to let her sleep?

So my baby is 8 weeks old and is thriving with weight gain each doctors visit. So here is my question: around 4-5 hours at night for sleep she wakes up every night and sucks on her thumb. (She finally this week likes it to soothe her during nap times) her eyes are still closed and she moves around and sucks it. I wake her to feed her. My question is should I just let it go? And see if she is just soothing herself to sleep? I don't want her to stave by morning if she sleep a couple of more hours. What would you guys do?
