Due to him being 3 weeks early and under 5 pounds it was really difficult for him to latch at first, and when he did he was using all his energy to eat and would fall asleep every 5 minutes. It was painful for awhile and I got frustrated and emotional a lot of the time until he was abt one month old, but I ended up exclusively breastfeeding for 15 months in total. The first 7 with no bottle at all, then when I started working I pumped for when I was away from him and breastfed when I was home. Getting him to take a bottle was ridiculously hard at first tho. He refused it daily for abt a month.
We were off to a rough start. I didn’t latch him on correctly, had sore nipples, got mastitis. Finally talked to a lactation consultant. Joined some breastfeeding support groups on Facebook. I made it to 18 months breastfeeding him!
I'm almost 17 months and still going. My nipples hurt like a bitch now. I want to get him off. My mistake was not pumping and introduce milk when it was supposed to be. Other than that I LOVED every minute of it. There are times NOW I wished I would've pumped and mixed milk. It's a great bonding time. It also sucks doing things with one hand and holding baby to nurse. Lol but you get used to it.
My first two would not latch. They are 10 and 12 years old now. My little preemie latched right on 2 days after me bottle feeding him breast milk on the nicu. How ever I pumped the first week he was in there but discontinued after I found out the meds on my can have affects on premature baby. 😔
Awful 😩 only because my baby ended up in th NICU so she was bottle fed first so when I tried my milk wasn’t coming down fast enough for her liking I guess .. tried pumping and I wasn’t producing enough milk unfortunately
