How do you get your child to give up the pacifier? Please don't judge, I've been trying since before…

My daughter is a thumb sucker. One day at about 6 weeks she dropped the pacifier screaming and put her thumb in her mouth. We never gave it back. In other words we lucked up I think. No judging. I see kids all the time who still have theirs. I think it's a comforter for her so maybe if you come up with a different routine that might help. Like, before she goes to bed, give her a warm bath and some warm milk. Then put her in her crib when she's comfy and see how she reacts. If that doesn't work I would try to replace her passy with a new favorite toy or something. Also, Google it. Google has helped me so much lol lol. Also ask your doctor what they personally would do. You never know 😆😊

My son is 20 months and I couldn't ever get him to stop using it... he only just now stopped using it while he had the flu and couldn't breathe with a paci in. Obviously I do not suggest that 😂 but suggestions from other friends were to really just hide them all and act like you don't know what your baby is talking about when they ask for it. Eventually they will forget. It won't be very easy naps or night time for a few days at least though.. My friend said she had planned late movies and lots of cuddling at home for three nights, and they pretended they didn't know what it was when baby asked for it. She forgot about it and stopped mentioning it as if "Well they don't know what I'm asking for, so I must be fine without it" She even found one a week later and held it up like "What is this" didn't even try to use it.

@mommylovescoraline Thank you! That is lucky. I'm hoping our other baby doesn't like it much when she's born. She has a whole mouth full of teeth so my husband and I have been wanting to break her from it.

@momma_life well congratulations on your other baby. I didn't realize you were expecting again LOL. Don't worry. I'm currently worrying about breaking my daughter from the bottle because she has a hissy fit even when she sees one. She has a doctor's appointment on the 29th so I'm going to ask the doctor what he would do LOL LOL. I think all babies like pacifiers at the beginning because it's a comfort thing but you never know this could be a thumb sucker LOL. It will be okay. They just get so comfortable with one thing that it's hard to give up. I think it's harder on us than it is on them sometimes. That's why I'm dreading taking the bottle away from my daughter.

@mommylovescoraline I understand that. I got lucky with the bottle breaking. She actually gave that up around 8 months. Good luck with getting rid of the bottle. I think my daughter hides her pacifier from us sometimes. Lol. Every time I turn my head for just one second she has another one.

I wish i had some advice but following, my daughter will be 2 in april and she will not give hers up durring nap and night either.

A lot of parents don’t like it but I do the “cry it out” method .. but of course it won’t work for everyone.
