I’m so frustrated with the child support agency. When I was pregnant, I had badgercare. They decided that my boyfriend needed to pay back birthing expenses, even though they took his income into consideration when qualifying me for badgercare and the money he is using to pay that back is my money too because we have a shared account. It’s just money we can’t afford to lose, which is why we qualified for badgercare in the first place🙃

Why have him on child support if your together?
J·
@missheatherbaby, that’s the agency that is asking him to repay the birthing costs. The state of Wisconsin paid for them since I was on badgercare. Since he was on the birth certificate but we are not married, they are asking him to pay it back

@jordyn_beth, 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ that sucks. I’m sorry your going through that!
Crystal·
See they’re treating him as though you two are not together. Making him payback those expenses is a form of child support. If that money is your money too that’s needs to be reported or a separate account created. I’m assuming you have sole custody and you might want to establish joint. That money removed should be his money only since he’s being treated as a non helpful father. Not your money too.

oh i get it now, that makes sense
J·
@crystal.newman, they know that we’re living together and we have a joint bank account. He pays for most of our stuff. We’ve been living together for two years now and he’s been supportive since the beginning, but they aren’t considering that
J·
@missheatherbaby, I just hate the constant calling back and forth trying to figure it out🙃

So question, can he put the child on his own insurance
J·
@beemommyof3, he’s still on his parent’s insurance. We can put my son on insurance through the army, but that won’t take care of the birthing costs🙃
Crystal·
@jordyn_beth, that’s pretty fucking bullshit. Honestly if you want to save money you’d be better off having a Court house wedding and being married. I didn’t want to marry my current husband because I had literally got divorced 23 days before. But we needed insurance and more money (he gets the tax thingys at work if he’s married and stuff) it saved us a lot of money in the long run. I didn’t feel ready at all but I don’t regret it.
J·
@crystal.newman, I’m not sure If that would help at all a year later though! I’m trying to see if we can prove that we’ve been living together before I applied for badgercare and show our bank statements or something

@jordyn_beth Dang ok
Crystal·
@jordyn_beth, I always save documentation. If you go to your local branch they can go as far back as they need. But I don’t know what the Wisconsin law is but in Indiana you’re not considered a spouse without marriage until you’ve lived with them for 7 years I think. Once they have lived there for 7 years they can be treated as a spouse and can even do their taxes as if they were married. Girl I’d be so mad. Like so damn mad. That’s not fair. You have the choice to pay bills or not. They’re forcing him because he’s basically a dead beat father in their eyes. Oooo i would be alllllll over that shit.
Crystal·
Also if you were married he would be able to claim more exemptions at work and receive more money and not be taxed as high. If he’s just claiming zero he’s being taxed a little more.
J·
@crystal.newman, I know😭 this is one thing no one warned me about when I they suggested I apply for badgercare. I would’ve been better off without it

Wisconsin is weird. So far they haven’t made my fiancé pay anything back but they did send me child support papers after she was born. I called the lady and she said they had to. He hasn’t paid anything.
