How old were your babies when you started weaning?
@michellewiggins1985 I don't know how it works but it was also making my boy really constipated. Now he drinks around 6/7oz every 3 hours and has a bit of baby porridge and jar foods inbetween xx
@mhs_ the hungrier baby formula seems to be making no difference to the amount my lil man has xx
@michellewiggins1985 8oz every 2 hours pretty much. I tried hungrier baby formula and that didn't do nothing. He was having loadssss of bottles during the day. He took to weaning straight away xx
@kayteamay I did mention to her but she didn't seem interested in much she is a bit too laid back my health visitor she never said alot when she was coming out to see him she would only be here like 10 mins xx
@michellewiggins1985 id say ask you health visitor to pay you a visit and she will advise you on what is best for him x
@kayteamay my lil boy has gone on to hungrier milk and I have put his bottles up to 7 ouces but still doesn't seem to be enough for him xx
My first was 7 weeks and i was advised to give him about 2 table spoons of baby rice a day. This was advise from my health visitor as formula just wasnt doing it. I was breastfeeding and he was having 9oz of extra hungry baby milk every 2-3 hours. With Lola i started when she was 5 months
@mhs_ how many ounces was your lil one having in each bottle at 4 months? Xx
I started Leo towards the end of 4 months because he was consuming a hell of a lot of milk, even when I upped the oz's and has been like that from birth. I just started him with baby porridge and stuff and will be introducing other stuff like fruit & veg very soon x
And that's exactly why it's guidelines. It's not law or the only advice you should listen to. But it is worth listening to it before you make any decisions. Many parents decide to wean very quickly based purely because their baby feeds a lot. I knew from day 1 Max was going to be an early weaner because he how he fed as a newborn. But I still didn't rush & decide to early wean. I upped his bottles and fed on demand until he was able to sit up and hold himself well. He could grab our food and milk just wasn't enough by the time he was 4months. So I started off by offering him a mouthful of yoghurt or porridge here & there to see how he took to it. Over a couple weeks he was eating and wanting more so I slowly upped it to 3spoonfuls of porridge & just went from there. Milk was still his main source of nutrition. Porridge just filled in some gaps. Then when he was nearer 5months I introduced veg & fruit. There's a lot of info online and books which you can look at. Signs of baby being ready & ideas what's best to start off with. Worth a look in helping you decide. I know adults who were weaned early and are fine and some that aren't fine. We all develop at different rates.
@sara-lou86 they say it's all proven but I don't understand how I have IBS but was never weaned early if it was that proven then I don't understand how some babies are allowed by doctors and health visitors x
@michellewiggins1985, yeah deffo! They’s so much stuff on things like when I was pregnant with Amelia you couldn’t eat eggs and other stuff then pregnant with rylee eggs wasn’t on me list you can now have them but couldn’t have cows milk🤔, like why it has calcium in:’), so I still drank it, I’m addicted to the stuff Nd didn’t see the big deal:’) xx
@mammyoftwo it's like all the breast feeding stuff when my daughter was born you were never forced to breast feed your babies then all of a sudden it became that everyone need to breast feed but yet again now midwifes can't force you in to doing it xx
The olden days were different because they didn't have the knowledge we do now. After research and adults with major issues with bowels etc there are reasons for the guidelines. But every baby is different. I wouldn't dream of weaning as early as 2 or 3months but Max was ready much earlier than Morgan. So it's just a bit of research and common sense when deciding when your child is ready I guess.
@mammyoftwo all these guidelines and proven things I don't believe in half of it like you say in the olden days things were totally different xx
@michellewiggins1985, i would Hun if you think he’s ready, its up to you when to feed him, I just don’t get why they give you the guidelines for 6 month when in the day it used to be 2 month n my mam n nana and everyone’s fine AND to the people who get advised they’s no difference between being advised and not where some will be, obviously people will have their own opinion but to me it’s an each to their own thing, the bad stomach it apparently gives you later in life etc, it could just be a coincidence you just don’t know tbh I don’t believe in the proven to be things but... like I said people have a different opinion on it and that’s mine 😘xxx
@danpabs5 I was told to put my son on the hungry milk but has made no difference to how much he is having xx
Personally I listen to the guidelines unless medically advised to do so. It's been proven that early weaning in later life can cause gastro problems like ibs and stuff. I would ask your health visitor and see what they say first because milk should be enough x
@mammyoftwo I really think my son is ready and didn't know whether to try him with a small amount of porridge xx
@michellewiggins1985, just that I thought she was ready, I never listen to midwifes or health visitors some of them are full of crap, health visit was fine with it when I told her though she said as long as for now it’s small portions and just baby food, like yeah cause I’m gonna give her kebab or something at 3 month old 😂, naa yeah just when she was ready hun xx
@mammyoftwo with your first one was that through advice from midwife or doctor or just that you thought they was ready? Xx
They say you shouldn't wean until 17 weeks at the very earliest xx
