So my son has had this horrid diaper rash heading toward a week now. The desitin has been keeping it at bay but it will not go away. I also bought some aquaphor to try. I’ve tried A&D too which works perfect preventing the rash but it won’t heal it. Nothing seems to be healing it and I just don’t know what else to do. Could he possibly be allergic to the diapers he’s using; would that cause a rash that seems to be from pooping but actually from the diaper? We have been using different brands because we got so much from the showers we had. Since this has been going on we’ve been using huggies and luvs. He’s been using huggies since he’s been home but we just started using the luvs a week or so ago. Though, if it was diaper allergy wouldn’t it be all over everything the diaper covers, not just his hiney? I just feel so bad because it looks awful and I can’t seem to make it go away 😩
Experiences/tips would be much appreciated. TIA😊

@noragra, she has 6 1/2 lol. The bottom two at 6 months. Top 4 up front at 7 months and now her 1st molar, top right has poked thru some.

@morganmommy79, Awww wow, I’m pretty sure I didn’t even get my first tooth til around her age. How many teeth does she have? He sees his pedi next week so I’m sure they’ll be able to take a look and tell but it does seem like he’s teething already

@noragra, my daughters gums get bumpy and swollen when she's teething. Her first molar finally poked thru. What you explained sounds exactly like what my daughter does while teething.

@morganmommy79, That’s so true. I went through a similar thing with apples in high school. I can eat them again now tho lol. Based on my research everything points to teething, with his sudden more frequent poops. I know I didn’t get teeth for a while when I was a baby but idk about his father. His gums don’t seem swollen but on the top it feels like the two front teeth are right there and the bottom is still smooth. He doesn’t seem to be pained but lately has been drooling, trying to bite his hands, and wanting the pacifier less

@noragra, I'm not sure. Allergies are so complex. I developed allergies out of nowhere 2 years ago and I'm 38. I would thinking if it were formula he's be vomiting too. It's possible he's teething too. Are his gums swollen or anything? My son cut at 2 months. Teething can cause loose stools which can cause bright red rashes.

@morganmommy79, that’s so weird! I’m not breastfeeding anymore and he’s been out of my pumped milk for at least 3 weeks now, so I don’t think it could be that, unless he’s suddenly developed a reaction to the formula. His only real problem is his butt. If he were allergic to the formula, he would have other signs, correct?

@noragra, my daughter wore Huggies for months then suddenly couldn't anymore. I went to Luvs and she's doing fine now. It's weird how they sometimes just develop an allergy or something like that out of nowhere. Do you think maybe there's a food allergy? Eliminating things one at a time is prolly a good idea. Hopefully the diapers take care of that when you switch

@noragra, give it 1-2 more days & it’s gonna clear it up 🙏🏾

@danad269, thank you! I’ll look into it 😊

@claudia0786, yes I bought some and used it last night under the zinc oxide and it seemed to start to help a lot, but then it came back real bad
Deleted·
@morganmommy79, I found parents choice 40% zinc oxide, desitin is only 13% and I believe the Boudreaux was higher than desitin but less than the PC brand so I ended up getting PC brand. I’ve been using soooo much of it but it just doesn’t seem to want to clear up. I stopped using wipes and just using a warm cloth when I change him now. This happened when he was 3-4weeks ish but did not get nearly this bad and didn’t take as long. We chucked that up to wipes allergy but once it cleared we went back to wipes with A&D to test and he had been fine up until now. I’m thinking he might be slightly allergic to the luvs so it just worsened the rash, but I have no clue, cause it’s only on his butt, not the rest of his diaper area. I’m gonna cut out the luvs and see if that helps. It probably wasn’t a good idea to alternate between diapers before knowing if he was ok to use a certain brand. 🤦🏼♀️

@noragra, I use Boudreaux butt paste. Takes hers away within hours usually. Sounds more like a poop a lot rash than yeast.

Ok that's great. Call his pedi tmm then and see what they say

@taurus_family2017, I wish I had some saved still so I could give him a milk bath, but he finished everything I had pumped. I’m a freak about the bottles. I soak them in scalding water, then scrub with the bottle brush and then run them through the dishwasher to sanitize and always completely air dry them lol.

@morganmommy79, it doesn’t really resemble pimples, it’s more bright red. He’s been pooping more as well, so that definitely plays into it, but we’ve always used A&D to prevent it but it happened literally overnight after he pooped and didn’t wake up to be changed 😩 and now we can’t get it to go away. But if it is a yeast rash, hopefully we can get something to clean it right up, cause he screams bloody murder when we change him and it breaks my heart cause it got so bad.

Ohh ok. Just asking because you would have been able to use the breast milk on it and let it air dry. Make sure you're cleaning all the bottle parts because if you don't out could cause something called thrush

@taurus_family2017, I did for about 4.5 weeks and now he’s on enfamil gentlease, which he does great with. He’ll be 2m tomorrow.

@theinkedmommy, thank you 😊 I’m gonna do some research on that and definitely giving them a call in the am

When my daughter had a bumpy rash that resembled pimples the dr said it was yeast. When she's just bright red it's from diarrhea which always hits her when she's teething.

Do you breast feed?

@noragra, It could be a yeast rash, which will require something other than Desitin and A&D to get rid of. Nystatin is amazing for yeast rashes. The doctor may be able to send in the prescription over the phone for you.
Deleted·
@theinkedmommy, it’s both 😩 I can feel it’s raised up and bumpy when I’m applying the ointment. Most of it is bright red in the center and it gets splotchy further out on his cheeks but there are a few spots where it’s breaking his skin down. He sees the pedi next week for his 2m apt but I plan on calling tomorrow cause it’s gotten so bad.

What does the rash resemble? Red and splotchy, or just bright red?
