So I work in a dementia/Alzheimer's unit one of our patients had breast cancer her family didn't wanna try and remove it due to her age. So that being said all they have done was get short term radiation well yesterday I was giving her a shower and I noticed a big mass on her boob she's complaining that her back and spine has been hurting. So we call her son to ask what did he want to do he says nothing but honestly it's nothing we can do she's 94 the treatment or removing it will kill her fast then the cancer. Come to find out the cancer is spreading in her body she's been so weak very sleepy and is losing strength to walk. I just wish I could help her or do something for her but in all reality I can't we just have to let the cancer run it's course and just make her as comfortable as possible.

That is the unfortunate part of health care. I did rotation with hospice. I could never do what they do or you. God bless you!

@beemommyof3 I love my job and what I do. I'm just a big cry baby when my patients get sick or when we can't do anything else for them.

Truly. Some of my patients have been here for months. They become family in a way

Has her son looked into hospice? Do you guys have a care coordinator at your facility? If so you should just mention the amount of pain she is in and ask if they have gone over options with their medical power of Attorney. A lot of people don't realize the options that exist for loved ones and the stress of it all makes it easy for things to be missed.

@beemommyof3 and that is very true! Especially when we see them everyday. My patients mean so much they are just so sweet lived amazing lives and just to see them suffer is heart breaking. We just had a lady pass away a few months ago but they do pass in 3's.

@mct her family is in Wisconsin her son doesn't want to do anything about it. We are going to discuss with the on site doctor and nurse to see if we could try and get her on hospice. But, then again we have to do what her power of attorney wants.

@tealmermaid it's so hard in those situations. I spent a lot of time working memory care units and my Grandma and Grandpa were in one at the end too. The families that don't care always make it the worst. When I think about all my parents did, which I never appreciated enough until I became a mom myself, it makes me sick to see the people who really don't care. I try not to judge them because I don't know their full story but it's so hard when you see their loved one suffer every day.

@mct it's very hard! I tend to get sad alot and take work home with me knowing I shouldn't. But these people are so innocent all they want is love and affection all they want is someone to care.

@tealmermaid that's the hardest part of that job. You see them almost every day. You get to know them and you take care of them. Eventually, you grow close. The hard part is in the end some of them begin to think you are their family and it's hard to not think of them in a similar way. The work you do means so much but it is impossible to not end up taking some of the emotions home with you. I think that's part of what makes a care giver awesome at their jobs though!

I hope the family is willing to look into hospice, it sounds like she needs the comfort care 😢 I’ve been a hospice nurse for years. It’s such a help for patients in this situation.

Since everyone is telling me to.. Here it is.. Well on mom life you stated your procedure was for a hole in your stomach.. But on instagram you "kicked cancers ass" and basically had throat cancer?.. I don't like liars!! Why lie?! I lost the people i loved most to cancer! That's not something to fucking joke about! I lost all respect for you! And if you really do have cancer why lie on mom life saying it was for a hole in your stomach?it just makes no sense to me!

Advice please ? Long story... I'm getting married in April we decided no kids other than our own two and my niece And nephew as would end up more kids that adults and it would Cost so much more plus wanted parents to have a day/night to enjoy themselves. Anyway my "maid of honor" ( hasn't done much to help but cause me stress) has 5 kids her youngest will be around 5 months old she's breastfeeding him and keeps telling me she is gonna try and express ect... but I know she has no intentions of doing that and I worry she's gonna put me on the spot the day before and say he won't take a bottle (cos she wouldn't have tried) so she either can't come or has to bring him. I'm spending a lot of money for her dress, hair make up food ect... so deffo don't wanna be let down. But it's not just her that's got kids the ushers have kids and we said no kids. Now I know it's different as she's feeding him but I dunno what to do!? Do I say she can bring him (if my oh agrees too) or do I say she can't. This all sounds so awful when I read it but there will be two other guests that will have newer baby's than that coming and they arnt bringing them. The biggest thing is she's just not talking to me about any of this she's ignoring my messages and not making contact with me. But she's spoken to a friend about it who told her to talk to me and be honest about it all! Torn tbh as she's already not coming on my hen but still hasn't told me this!!! If she just came to me and said look I'm feeding my baby I don't wanna bottle feed him so either he comes or I can't I'd be happier she's being honest rather than dragging it out making out she gonna try and express. I don't expect her to I said it's down to her it's her baby. May I add that we fell out a while ago as she wasn't bothering with me ect any way we made up and I asked her be part of the wedding again so she could have said then I can but il have a baby then, but she didn't she just said it will be fine il sort out. So stressed ?

I can't take it anymore! Haley (yes my 1mth old and no I wasn't able to go through this "joy" of nursing my older daughter, Molly) has been screaming non stop for 6hrs! All she wants to do is eat and I can't have her attached to me all day, everyday! She has wanted to eat every hr on the hr for the past 3hrs! I put her in her room so I don't scream at her but I just can't take it!
