Has anyone ever gotten a false diagnoses? I took my daughter to the ER where they diagnosed her with strep throat. I did think it was weird for a 3 month old to have it, but my sister does so I just went with it. After looking at symptoms for a cold, the flu and strep, I watched her all day. Now I believe she has the flu. I went to the ER, asked them to look at her and they simply ran a few tests and said she has strep. I paid them and hsd to cancel multiple events to pay for trhis visit. Now I need to take her back to the doctor again...but we just don't really have that kind of money right now. We had her 4 month check up the other day, but he said "Bring her back if she is still having issues. It is very cheap, only $150." That is not really cheap. I don't live with my parents, and can not rely on them for everything. I need to do this on my own. I don't want to give her some random medication. You do not do that, especially for a baby. But we also can not afford to go to the doctor again. I am in tears. I have seriously NO idea what to do here. Any advice? Thanks.
I would really go back to the hospital and ask specifically what tests they ran and make sure they did a strep test if you still have any doubts.
@badadvicemom Wow. So sorry about that. I am glad you got her to the doctor in time.
But what @lovelily said. It's a swab test. You can always call and verify that's what was done
They swab the nose for flu, the mouth for strep. You can also smell strep -- believe it or not. I worked in ER and the docs and nurses swear Strep has a smell. They can usually make the diagnosis on that alone.
It’s best to ask exactly what tests they ran. If they did a legitimate strep test then i would say she has strep. My eldest daughter had it but not that young. But I really don’t think they’d diagnose the baby with strep without doing that strep test. I’m sorry your going through this tho.
@lovelily They did run tests, but I have no idea which ones. They did not tell me or let me go witht them while she was getting tested.
Yup. My daughter was mis diagnosed as having a virus and almost killed her. She had a virus or something, but they totally missed that her blood sugar was dangerously low and by the time we got her to the second hospital for a second opinion they told us had we waited any longer she wouldn't be alive
You said they did tests. If they did a strep test and saw streptococcal bacteria, then it's positive strep. If they did a flu swab and it was neg then it's not flu.
@sherrynygirl I have no idea. They did not let me go with them while they did tests. They just kind of left my boyfriend and I hanging for a while. I was not thinking strep, and was surprised when they told me.
@sherrynygirl
It's possible. A boy I babysit (1) and my counsins babies (1 &2) got strept. They didn't wanna test them because it is Soo rare but it is possible
Did they test her for strept? If they ran a lab/test and it came back for strept than I wouldn't do anything. If they just diagnosed without any testing then I would get a second opinion. Usually medication for strept is just a round of antibiotics. ?
@heera I guess so...they had me stay in a waiting room. I could not see her. I that that was strange too.
Never heard of strep in a baby and i have been a mom over 21 yrs of my life..yes exactly did they do a strep culture? On a baby.?
I can't take it anymore! Haley (yes my 1mth old and no I wasn't able to go through this "joy" of nursing my older daughter, Molly) has been screaming non stop for 6hrs! All she wants to do is eat and I can't have her attached to me all day, everyday! She has wanted to eat every hr on the hr for the past 3hrs! I put her in her room so I don't scream at her but I just can't take it!
Sooooo Athena has to have the surgery 😥😥😥😥 I've been bawling I'm a mess ! I can't believe this is happening to my poor child ! Why ? What did I do that caused this ? I'm seriously on my knees bawling ! As much as I tried to prepare myself, I wasn't ready to hear those words . In 3 months she will have her cranial surgery & I pray to God she has a easy & speedy recovery ! Please pray for my baby ladies ! She really needs them !
Locking your doors
We are having a discussion on one of my birth boards from my older kids about locking doors and security alarms. There are many of us (me included) who do not lock our doors at home (I actually don't even have a deadbolt on my house and we don't lock it when we leave either), and others who think that's totally weird. So what do you do? Do you lock your doors? Do you think it's weird that people don't?
my baby daddy's ex wife works at the hospital I'm having my daughter she is just a cleaning lady she tell me they let her move the babies around I'm scared this women will take my baby she even tells me if I have my baby early she could see her ever day .. my doctor only delivers at this hospital I don't know what to do . this is why I don't want to have my baby early ..
@chloe.teenmomma In the future, just FYI.....always be the mom that asks questions. Ask what tests are being done, ask for specifics on everything. Blood draw? Ask for the name of the test and what it's for. It's your right to know.
