My babies gag everytime I give them baby food and when I give them rice cereal with their formula like the Dr told me to start dping and when I mush up my food. Is it them being picky? Is it the texture? I know they are ready for real food.i just want to find something they will eat without gagging and throwing it up... they won't even drink Apple juice with water...
I've tried baby food: green beans, peas, sweet potatoes and corn, squash, apples, bananas.
I've mushed up: green beans (Kai liked it for like two bites), baked potatoes ( Kai was ok with them for a second then started gagging), beans, bananas.

They may not be ready. Has nothing to do with picky. Are they able to sit and are they still using thrust reflex of the tongue. Mine is almost 8 months and won't eat baby food

@beemommyof3 I think they are though. They are trying to feed themselves, starring at me when I'm eating and they chew everytime they see me with food. I give them a small bite and they open their mouths for it but they have a super bad gag reflex like their dad... wish they wouldn't

@beemommyof3 what the thrust reflex?

I agree with @beemommyof3 some babies aren't ready for solids until 9 months to be honest. You started them around 3 or 4 months didn't you? That's super early to be feeding them solids consistently.

@believeinbuddha I tried a couple times around 4months I think but they weren't ready I've been off and on trying them this past few weeks

When they stick there tongue out when you putting the spoon in. Drives me nuts but she will eat small amounts of my food by hand feeding. Also if they can use there 2 finger grasp they can picks snacks up

@beemommyof3 they open their mouths when I am giving them food with spoon or by hand. They don't spit it out which Is weird if they don't like it they just let it sit on their tongue and gag lol

@twinmomma2b I honestly said fuck it and tried to feed Harley a bite of mashed sweet potatoes that I made and she just pushed it out. Didn't seem ready to eat it at all. So I was like "duh ivy she is only 4 months old" so I'm going to try to give her tastes once a week until I see more of an interest. I've NEVER tried this approach, with my older kids I always waited until 5 and a half months to even start tastes. But I figured fuck it I can do whatever I want really and I'm educated so I don't believe what I'm doing is harming her

Yeah. They may not be ready. I tried sweet potatoes with my daughter and it was a no but she eats mashed potatoes and hashbrowns. Like girl come on. smh

Milk is the #1 source of nutrition, foods are just for learning so just try again maybe in a few weeks. Continue to offer things they will take for now. Don't waste a bunch of baby food right now.

At 6 months mine all ate fried eggs and liver mush but now my son is 3 he is the worst at texture

Gracelynn couldn't do rice cereal til 5 months. Other baby food about 6.5 months. She has 4 teeth and has a hard time chewing. We still are on second foods

Definitely too early for them to be eating all that. If they're gagging they are not ready, regardless of what you think. My son started chewing when I was having food, and staring st everything I did at 3 months. He didn't start purees until 6 months. All they need is formula or breast milk.

Juices and mills should only be introduced closer to the first birthday. My daughter couldn’t tolerate any purées until almost seven months. So we decided to do baby led weaning. Now she’s eating everything. It sounds like they’re just too little and not ready yet. Also you should only be trying one food a week. So I’m not sure how long you’ve been trying foods with that long list. Remember food before one is just for fun!

Just be patient. My girl is six months and she's been eating stage ones on occasion since 4 months. Now she's on stage two and gags at most of them. She loves pear blueberry but any veggies she gags and won't eat. It might be a trial and error thing. If you and their doctor think it's time to start them. It should be okay just be patient and make sure they are still getting enough formula or breast milk
