@sharkbait We found a good used one for cheap, but we had bought a new generator. Our generator died on day 3, which was when I learned that after it runs out of gas you have to let the motor cool for a couple of hours before refueling and restarting. My friend's fried their refrigerator by not allowing the cool down time, so take that into consideration too. Generators are not cheap, and neither are appliances. I hope they clear this up for you soon!

That's terrible! I'm so glad you're taking steps to get control of the situation. A little tip to save food during your next outage... If you have a big deep freezer, make and bag as much ice as you can and put it in there. When you lose power, bury all of your refrigerated foods under the bags of ice and keep it closed as much as possible. Since it's not hot up there, your food should keep for about a week that way. I did that when Hurricane Irma came through, and even with 100°+ temperatures my food kept for four days.
