So I grew up with really frugal parents. We always had money, something I only realised when I got much older, but were made to feel like we were struggling always. In a way it taught me how to spend less, want less, need less. So I appreciate that. But now that I'm married and living life on my own, I really don't appreciate being made to feel like shit for buying things me and hubby want. We're not spenders. I get that we don't have much excess income so my parents think we should be saving. But sometimes a couple needs to treat themselves. We've been waiting for a year for black Friday to buy a TV, and my parents point is, if yours isn't broken why? Erm. Because we like to have good quality tech that's not over 6 years old. Because we don't buy ourselves clothes, jewellery, treats, we don't go out as a couple, the most we do is have takeaways way too often. So I'd like to spend on my tech. I know my hubby wants to gift me a Nintendo switch, and the annoying thing is I keep refusing because I'm embarrassed at what my parents will say. I grew up not being allowed to buy anything expensive and they still judge us when we do. I get that to them its such a stupid thing for a mum of 2 to buy. But I don't ask for designer handbags, makeup, shoes, clothes, NOTHING, I just want a games console 😭😭😭 dunno why I let their opinions matter so much, it's my life.

Girlll, I know how you feel but keep it moving boo. You are MARRIED. you have your own family to deal with and raise. Your parents have done their bit now you've fled the nest just focus on yourself and your own. Get that Nintendo switch if you want. Buy a 80 inch tv if you like. Even use it as a dinner table if you like. It's your life.

If your not relying on your parents financial support in any way then that's all they are. Their opinions. We can't stop our parents sprouting off their 'we did this in our day and survived' lol. But you can choose to wave it off. I wouldn't even feel the need to justify it. My husband is 32 and still enjoys playing PlayStation 😂

@micahsmoeder hahaha thank you! @xxxzenixxx That's the worst! I feel bad because for my husband it's his in laws judging. He's changed job 3 times in 2 years and we're always having to explain our choices. Everyone's priorities and lifestyle are different. Let us make our own way!

@sara-lou86 I think it's my immaturity that I'm not able to shrug off opinions of others easily. I need to stop being so soft.

Don't get me wrong, when I find out my hubbies Mum has had a rant about my style of parenting or my children I have a bit of a rant/ moan. Perfectly normal lol. But yeh I've definitely learnt to let things go, move on kind of attitude. I try to avoid negative people and talk where possible because I'm not that kind of person. It hurts when it's your own parents. I just roll my eyes at my Mum lol
