So I’m Hispanic and my husband is whit. he’s family is from Italy and my family is Colombian I was born in Colombia as well. my daughter is going to have a first name and a middle name but also my last name hyphen his last name what are some thoughts about this. my mom says that people are going to treat her as a bastard because she has my last name first.

Your child is not going to be treated like a bastard because of their last name. That's wrong of you mother to say something like that to you about her granddaughter. I'm Italian, and my SO's Puerto Rican and our baby's taking his last name. My sisters were born with 2 last names and they weren't treated differently at all.

I think that’s an old school mentality. Our generation is different. Nowadays, married women don’t even take their husband’s last name.
