Soooo. I was talking to my husband tonight of pros/cons of hospital vs. birthing center. He comes from a very very liberal family full of doctors and I come from a bunch of conservative hippies. Anywhoooo. Had to share my fav line from him, “giving birth naturally like you want is just a fad”

Guys I couldn’t handle myself. I was in shock and laughing and crying all at once.
He said either go to the hospital and get hooked up to every machine, or? Pitch a tent in the woods and go solo.

UHM THERE IS A HAPPY MEDIUM.

This is his first child and he’s panicked and so far has zero empathy 😂🙃

@jlawrence62317, not sure if its “not allowed” or just not practiced. I know Oregon has a birthing center that I had considered, but decided I didn’t want to travel, mom wasn’t going to travel and it was ok anyway.

Yes she was 9 lbs 15.5 oz. so to say it faster we say 10 lbs, because at that weight who gives a crap about a half oz?!?!?! LOL

Ultrasound put us 3 days ahead of what the due date is, but same week. My daughter was a week late, so that played a part in her weight also. But my mom’s really into genealogy and she finally found another 10 lb. baby in our direct line... So I’ll just blame the ancestors! LOL

@jlawrence62317 haha it's funny indie birth actually started a school this year, I wanted so bad to apply and do it this year but funds and timing didn't work out but within the next couple of months I'm applying for next year, it's an onlin program so it works for being a stay at home mom 😆

@loveless, oh my gosh thank you so so much! Yeah I’m currently studying to be a doula now with an “at home at your own pace” program since I have two young kids and a child husband 😂 but I love it. I’m constantly reading books and studying up and I’m a HUGE advocate for having the birth you want and so idk why my husband is surprised ?? 🤷🏼‍♀️ like. Whatever ? Ha but yes. I’ll definitely check out that website!!

@sadiesue0718, you’re in Idaho right?? They don’t allow that?? That’s messed up. Girl come to Utah where I’m at. We gotchu 😉 every woman should have the birth they want.
Ooooh big baby. Yeah? With my son he was almost 9 pounds, but instead of saying he was “measuring ahead” they literally just kept changing my due date? And he was still born before the most current one. Hahaha he was seriously like 3 weeks early with zero issues and a fatty.

I gave birth my first time unassisted, at home with my husband. It was so amazing and I loved it. Of course it wasn't how I thought I'd be giving birth in the beginning of my pregnancy, it was a gradual decision that led from hospital➡birth center➡home birth/midwife➡unassisted/freebirth. I did so much research and prepared myself, I'm actually striving to be a midwife. The biggest source where I got my information from and helped me so much is this website called indie birth, I strongly recommend checking it out. It provides free information on all things natural birth, it may help to calm your husband on that happy medium.

I wanted a water birth, but my city let alone State doesn’t do them.... We also don’t have a birthing center. So my doc talked me out of having a home water birth and I’m glad he did because I had a 10 lb baby girl that got stuck.... The nurse that put my daughter on my chest said “wow she’s a monster!” Then immediately appologized, I was to tired to laugh having pushed on and off for 3 hours, so I just told her “it’s cool, she is a monster!”. That nickname has stuck with my husband for her. LOL

I still want a water birth, but I’m still in that same boat, and to make it worse doc says baby boy is measuring big, even though we are only a few days further than expected...

I laughed so hard that I snorted at the “there is a happy medium” though. I’m surprised I didn’t wake my hubby up!

@austinsmommy, it’s not my first. It’s my third. It’s his first. I had awful awful hospital experiences with my first two. Babies were healthy and fine and nothing was ever wrong but just the way I was treated and cared for in a hospital setting was absurd. And it was one of the best hospitals in this area. I don’t mind being at a hospital if it makes him happy but I do want to try naturally and on my terms. He can pick location, either way baby will come when and where baby wants 😂

@thecreatress, no I agree. If there is anything wrong, or if it ends up being high risk I will happily give birth in a hospital. Hell I’ll do it in a hospital to make him happy?! But I want to do it naturally and I don’t want to be hooked to machines and I want to have the freedom to eat and drink water and walk around, change positions if I need too. He’s acting like, it’s absurd? He’s acting like I have to go full blown all the machines plus some “just in case”. It’s cute that he thinks he gets a say as to what machines I’m hooked up too 😂 when he gives birth he can decide. Hahahaha
I think he’ll chill once he sees me full grown and miserable. He better.

Everyone was against me having a home birth as well. Women were made to give birth naturally. I say if you're healthy go for it. You have to go carry this baby for 9 months alone, you deserve the birthing experience you want as well. Not like he's going to not come to the birth at the birthing center right ?
I was supposed to have a home birth but had some issues with my health and had to deliver in a hospital & despite really wanting that experience glad I was in hospital this time around
